Sorry, but no acro on the to-do list. I think it's ridiculous. But I do plan to do the taildragger endorsement next year. Need to have that done before I do the DC-3 type. :)

An unusual attitude course (not in your airplane - gyros, etch) is a really good thing. Plus you may like it. I thought at one time Avemco gave a discount but I'm not sure.

I'd rather sit for an hour and listen to someone scratch his nails against a blackboard. Acro is pointless. Airplanes are for going places!
 
How easy is it to rent a seaplane once you get the rating? Are there FBOs you can even rent from after you do your training with them? Or does it mean you would have to buy one in order to fly one?

Some training locations will rent, but agreed, not a given.

Also the visa need for non US citizen flight training will need to be investigated (some have said I need it for a high alt endorsement, some have tried to get me to do CFi without one, so glad it is clear as mud)
 
I earned my SES add-on with Seattle Seaplanes on Lake Union. I did it because I was due for a Flight Review and wanted to broaden my experience base. I recall spending all my time practicing takeoffs and landings. If you're preparing for SES training and wondering what to study, learn to sail a boat and you'll be good to go. At the time, Seattle Seaplanes would allow you to rent solo after your training was complete. The fun factor was very high. I enjoyed the seaplane more than acro in a Decathlon. The Decathlon might have been why, but I digress. Even if it's just 10hrs in your logbook and a Flight Review replacement, you'll be glad you added SES.
 
Where are you in the world? This may impact your ability to rent the seaplane post training.
 
I'm usually content to just let this stuff slide by but.... apparently this thread is full of acrobats.

If I "make it" the way I hope to in life, I'd hope to add a bunch of types just to have them and take the opportunity for a few odd hours in a cool plane here and there if I get the chance. Nothing wrong with that. If I randomly end up with a Hawker type and then one day take a job flying one, I wouldn't feel bad because it's not like I went and got one because I wanted to save a company money and pay for a job. I'd figure most of us would do similar given the opportunity with non-aviation wealth.

But to the OP, Seaplane. That would be epic.
 
The SIC type is not a type, it's a sign off. And you can do it in one flight and gain absolutely no real world knowledge or experience, just my 2 cents. Go do the fun stuff, I would get a PIC type in a B25 if I had any desire to spend money on something I willnever probably fly after training.

This... I cant agree with more. I learned tailwheel in a Pitts and am learning acro. It is by far the most fun I have had in an airplane. Especially after the first 5-8 lessons and I out grew the motion sickness. It has made all of the other aircraft easier to fly and vastly increased my skills as a pilot, even when I am not inverted! I have an instructor who is one of the best in the DC area that does a lot of training for foreign pilots. Happy to send you his contact information if you want.

Maybe if I sell some tools....................hmmmmmmmmm!
