Nice airplane. Way too expensive! They do look purdy, though.

I've got a ton of time falling asleep in the back of that exact airplane. Didn't know how cool it was until I got older. When I was young I thought every airport was full of Howard's, Spartan's, Stearman's and Waco's.
it's all about the look when arriving to see clients. You know what I mean.ATN_Pilot said:Nice airplane. Way too expensive! They do look purdy, though.

Are you seriously comparing the ramp presence of a Cirri to a Howard DGA and implying clients would be more impressed with Cirri?
Sort of depends on what impresses them, doesn't it?
If your clients are Eurotrash in the brassiere business I could see the Cirri being more fitting. But only then. There's no replacement for displacement.
I envy your upbringing, and I thought you might comment regarding that picture. As short as my tenure at KSZP was I still reflect on it fondly. A group of people and an airport that exists solely for the appreciation of flying machines, money seems like a secondary concern. With the mil paint job and nose art, I had just assumed it was a loadstar, so I didn't even ask. I was pretty sure it wasn't a Howard 500. When I looked at the pics later, the yoke cap on the pilots side, says Howard 250. Now I'm even more confused. Maybe @WacoFan can enlighten the crowd?I really dig the Howard 500, too.

HowardLearstar vs Howard?
Anything with two 2800 CBs deserves admiration. That airplane broke at VNY once, the oil spilled would cause a Prius driver to spill their Starbucks.I really dig the Howard 500, too.![]()
Gotcha. I have heard of the 500 but not the 250. Do you know what the main differences are? They're both based on the Lodestar correct? The pax windows are obviously different and it looks like the 250 has three blades while the 500 has four. Maybe some other aero mods? I'm pretty sure I saw a brochure about the one you posted five or six years ago when it was for sale? That one you saw isn't a 500, it is a 250 like the yoke horn button states.
I was just saying I think the 500 is sexy too.
Bad. Ass. Look at how close those prop tips are to the ground. Compress the mains and the nose and it gets waaaaaay closer. Crazy.View attachment 30862
It's like two Bearcats flying in tight formation.
And they operated off of carriers. I've always wondered how fast one could go with modified 3350s. I can tell you with a fair amount of certainty that fleeting thought has crossed minds that I can only aspire to emulate, and there hasn't been any takers. At least there are few still flying.Bad.
