FWIW, at my place first year folks don't buy anything if they are wearing the 'half wing' ALPA Pin on their tie while at work or the layover. You are expected to wear the ALPA Pin on the tie after that though. Shows unity.

I've heard of guys at my place who won't close the door until the jewelry is visible.
 
Not fond of the lanyard, but I use it for crew badge and KCM. I wish I had more trust in clipping it to my shirt, but I don't.
 
Is anyone else annoyed as hell about Burlington, VT TSA requiring you to remove your crew ID from the plastic pouch on your lanyard? Holy crap that pisses me RTF off every single time. 0 to 60. I have no patience for that crowd. Thanks for saving the public from the airline crew by forcing us to remove our IDs. "Yeah, we all banded together, and faked our badges, killed the other crew, and here we are. And we would've gotten away with it if you hadn't made us remove our badges. Damn you TSA!"

The most annoying thing is that it's not a national policy. It's some self-righteous rooster sucker in BTV that believes he is single-handedly enhancing safety and security. The last time I went through there, I queried the guy. He had the gall to say, "How can I tell if it's a fake if it's in the plastic?" I said, "Well, the fact that I'm with two FAs and a captain could be a hint. But what do I know?"

I feel like my badge is more likely to get snagged/dropped/etc. if I wear it on my shirt vs. on a breakaway (old-school blue and white, thanks) lanyard.

Oh shoot man, I wouldn't even pee without my orange card.

I still have a ALPA contact card on the back of my ID for a possible "eventuality", but it's still got NYC Council 66's info because @Richman never got around to making one for DTW. Ahem.
 
I keep my crew badge, airport badge, and KCM on my lanyard. Also my license and medical are there too, but I am going to move those to my wallet.
 
I figure if anything bad happens, I'm going to probably somewhat be in shock and all I have to do is follow the checklist out my passengers and crew are out of the jet safely.

"Oh, hon, it's just the news media, let me go out front of the house and get all this cleared up, BRB"

There was a time there when two TSA officers would follow the FO around during the first flight pre-flight at BTV. I always asked if they needed to see anything specific. They'd say No, then proceed to follow and stare. The practice eventually stopped, perhaps due to inquiring minds from the company.
 
Do any companies you guys fly for have uniform policies that talk about how/where to display badges (ergo, neck lanyard vs clip)?

Also, what other traditions or unofficial guidance is there regarding how to wear your flair at various companies (like what @Seggy posted regarding the ALPA tie pins at Big U)?
 
You'll always be able to wear some union flare. Some places have restrictions on what kind of lanyard you can wear. You'll typically be issued a company or generic one in Indoc. I Ds always have to be worn on outermost garment.

I don't wear them either but you know I actively volunteer with ALPA. I was on a committee before I even finished training at my current job. Maybe if they gave us an ALPA tie bar, I would wear that. Just don't like putting holes in my ties or lapels.

At TSA the only thing they require is that it be above the waist. Also no stickers on your flight kit or backpacks.
 
I wear the lanyard. Only time I had any issues with lanyards was when I was at AMF. Those bags of cancelled checks really liked to take my ID for a ride into the pile of bags every once in a while.

Kind of wish my airline would do this or at least approve certain ones. I can't help but wonder what some people think about the stickers I find on tons of people's flight kits. Clearly not many people want to be taken seriously in my shop. I seriously wonder if they play the "Let's offend as many customers as possible" game.

At least the stickers do give me an idea of what a CA will be like before a trip starts though.
