Cessna 172 upgrade

So the 172R has an MTOW of 2,450 and the 172S of 2,550. N1234 started out as a 172R but had the conversion up to S-model performance. I am wondering if the weights were also recertified. Where do I find out this information

If the info is not in whatever POH is on the plane (I've seen too many 172s with generic POHs that were not updated properly yet in the aircraft as the official POH), I would check the weight and balance sheets, see if the paperwork reflects R or S gross weight, and ask the call the certifying mechanic if you have questions.

Unless the mod was approved via the TCDS and/or factory drawing, whatever method used should be noted in the logbook.

It's an easy STC with a new prop and repainted tach. Because the R/S models are "new" and manufactured after some obscure date in the regs, they have serialized POH's. Actually, it might be a SB or SL that can make the change. It's the same dang engine, but it's spins at 2700 rpm to get the extra HP. Regardless, there should be paperwork onboard (in the poh) with the new speeds and weights.

Is that just for the carbureted models? Pretty sure the R/S with IO-360's were still 2500rpm, but the O-360's I've seen (RG's) were 2700. And I *think* all the 1999+ models were injected.

The difference in performance is not that great. Take the money you're going to spend in the conversion and just buy Avgas...............

All Independence-built 172s (R and S, 1997-) had the same IO360 engine. The difference was a cruise/climb prop. The climb prop has a higher red line.
