Envoy To Close NYC (Official)

Well, another one bites the dust. It was officially announced this morning that the NYC base will be closed by the end of the year. That will leave DFW and ORD as the sole bases for Envoy.

It is hard to keep a smile on my face every day after almost 2 years of beatings.

I do love being a pilot. I do not like working for a company that is being willfully destroyed.

I was technically based in JFK when I started at American Eagle, but didn't spend much time there as I got DFW right away, and did consolidation flying out of LAX (when that was still a thing, too).

Major bummer watching the slow dismemberment of this airline.

How big was the base? Who is going to do that flying?
TSA will be doing the 145 flying, with aircraft that will be transferred from Envoy. An "unnamed" airline will be doing the CRJ-700 flying, but I'm sure it will be PSA. I would imagine they will be announcing a NYC base in the near future. I'll have to get back to you with how big the base is.

They're building up PSA and Piedmont now. In 5 years Envoy will grow and PSA or Piedmont will shrink. Maybe both.

That's the regional game.

It sucks, but should motivate others to GTFO. As of now lots of people are being picky, too picky, IMO. I was up front in an RJ last week, CA lived a couple miles from Midway. Told him about the new SWA no type requirement. "I don't want to be an F/O forever" was his reasoning for not applying, and instead commuting to his RJ CA job. I told him he'd make $50k more and be living at home, he didn't care.

You can't help those guys. On a side note I flew with him when I was an F/O at the same company...

From our call in the other day we are not going to have a New York base. Most of our crews will be coming out of STL. Rumor was a RDU base, but who knows.

Everyone has their own reasons for staying, or moving on. To each his own.

"I get weekends off"

I know the type.

It's even more confusing when they don't get weekends off, and commute to reserve.

Them- "This company sucks!"
Me- "You trying to get out of here?"
Them- "Naw, I don't want to have to get ready for an interview."

Oh yes.

My personal favorite was at my DCI regional a couple CAs would say that they didn't want to fly at Delta because "Delta wasn't their cup of tea."
Never did figure out what that meant. How can Delta Air Lines not be your cup of tea but Delta Connection is totally cool?
I have no desire to work for DL either. But the commuters are a completely different culture than mainline, you should know that.

Personally I think it's important one fits into the culture if you're going to spend 30-35 years there.

I had the same feeling about AA but here I am. Oh well, just have to hide out in an Airways domicile.

I'm still not sure I get this culture thing. IMO it gets blown out of proportion. Unless I'm missing what you are trying to say?

I don't think I'd notice a difference in working at DL, UA, or AA. Each have their own bases, similar fleets, domestic and international flying, and pilots from all walks of life.

There's a pretty big cultural difference at each airline. Some may be similar (B6/VX) but there is certainly differences in who might be a good fit for a specific place. That said, normally people tend to adjust to the culture of a place once they get there.
