757 Lust?

I'm in the minority because always enjoyed the 75 over flying the 76. Admittedly part of that was because I flew the 75 significantly more. Both are awesome airplanes for different reasons but I always liked the look of the 75 and the solid, slightly heavier feel it had when hand flying.

Same for myself. I flew the 75 pretty much 90 % of the time. I loved that plane. Don't get me wrong..the 76 was a dream to fly as well. Coming out of a leg on the 75 and into the 76 I had to remind myself not to over control the 76 as it felt extra sensitive. One of the most hotrod flights I did have was on a lightly loaded 76 from MIA-MCO this summer..talk about fun!

Here is a picture this past summer of my arrival into Jackson Hole (great layover). I feel it really shows the great lines of the 75 especially in the polished scheme.

I'm watching "Iron Maiden: Flight 666" and trying to explain to my lady friend exactly why the Boeing 757 is such a drop-dead sexy piece of machinery. I'm having a hard time getting beyond the whole "because it just is" explanation.

Can any of you industry guys articulate it better for us? I'm just a GA guy and don't carry much merit in the discussion lol.

Long legs and big cans.

I keep hearing that the 76 flies much better than the 75. Is it just the having the outboard and inboard ailerons?

What's with all the RB211 757 love?

PW2000> RB211

Because the PW powered ones just suck!!!!! ATA had both PW and RR, the RR's were 10x better overall. I was so glad when ATA got rid of their PW's, made dispatching so much easier.

Of course then ATA went and bought those -300. Those were pigs, espcially in and out of KMDW.

I have no technical experience flying the 75. So I speak purely from an aesthetic POV. like @Derg said. Long legs, big cans.

I just like the larger look of the PW's vs the smaller RR. But RR's make the better hair dryer sound.

Ya happy now, @ASpilot2be?

I'm a geek, so there.

Funny I was thinking the same thing. When I flew the 76, it was really easy to do the "wobble" when landing in a crosswind if you didn't consciously think about it...kind of like, "oops that was too much aileron, ok that's better!"

Got to fly an empty 75 from HOU to ATL after dropping off the St Louis Cardinals two years ago. Got to do it again from SEA to PDX one day after dropping off the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. That was fun stuff.

The 757 isn't a pig in the air..has a real nice weight to it. To compare it to flying the KC-10 around which I have a majority of my time in, the 75 is lighter on the controls. The easiest way to describe going from the 75 to 76 is like having power steering with the extra set of ailerons. It was always more sensitive to me.. not in a bad way, but just had to be light with my inputs.

Now on the bus I don't know where to start explaining how that feels. I like the feel of the joystick. The plane has a great (artificial) feeling and you can really finesse the plane with minimal inputs. My initial thoughts transitioning figured the plane would have a more 'dulled' feel with all the computers involved..I was wrong :)
