Regionals vs. Majors

I am so glad I didn't pursue becoming an airline pilot, the amount of energy spent on figuring out the best way to game the system, and then comment on how others can't follow suit is astounding. If you spend all of your time off trying to figure out how to get more time off and more money is it really time off?

It probably sounds complicated, but it's actually super easy and doesn't take a lot of energy at all.

REgional vs. Major.
Regional :
I think one of the biggest things is your support network at the majors is infinitely better. As a captain at a regional, you are really orchestrating the show and keeping it from falling apart. Most ground handling is subcontracted and subpar and inadequate at best. Maintenance is more often contract mx at just about everywhere but a hub, a mx write up can really ruin your day. Crew scheduling is a skeleton crew of people who are trying to staff flights with less than enough pilots. As a regional flight your flights are more likely to be canceled or severely delayed. Hotels aren't as nice and most of the time are near the airport even on long layover. Because of lack of staffing, changing your schedule around is very hard to do, what you are awarded is most likely what you fly. Depending on the size of the RJ, you could be flying many more legs probably averaging 4 legs a day....I could go on but I think you get the point.
Major:
Pretty much the opposite of all that.

Contract.

Pay rates are like epic breast implants.

Breast implants on someone like Katy Perry are one thing, implants on someone like Steve Buscemi is something else entirely different.

It's the whole contractual package you've got to consider.

No profit sharing at AA, though... there are about 26,000 reasons I got as to why dollar to dollar isn't a perfect comparison. :)

Agree completely. Was just pointing out a 320CA makes $20 more an hour at AA. Got to compare the right size apples before you bring the oranges to the table.

Profit sharing ebbs and flows. IMO, I'd rather get higher fixed rates that I know for fact are coming versus a profit share that may not (or be as strong as suspected/assumed).

You really don't want to know how big the last one was.

While I agree it's money "at risk", you can't simply say "ABC makes $210, XYZ makes $245, XYZ makes more than ABC" — which is why the websites with the pay scales are more or less the photoshopped blurry selfie on FarmersOnly.com

You don't have to be lonely!

I heard. It was big, and bigger than last year. I didn't make any comparison about hourly rates, just a simple observation on profit share.

"Alfred, why did the Wayne Foundation stop funding boys homes in the city?"

"The Foundation is funded by the profits of Wayne Enterprises. There have to be some."

Actually, they're not annual.

If you do the math that's really only about 11,000 reasons.

I know it's hard work after counting all those buttons on your coat though, so I'll give you a pass.

I know you're too busy adding more hashtags to your photos, but I said 26,000 reasons that I got. :D Then there's premium pay, my 85 hour guarantee and so on and so forth. The point was that comparing hourly rates are but one part of the picture.

I'm *pretty sure* we all get it. We feel very happy for you guys, hearing it over, and over, and over again. Really, you're awesome.

Me personally, and I probably speak for the majority, I'm just happier than #### that I escaped the commuters and ended up at a place that pays me six figures to fly airplanes without even having to work for the credit. I've never understood why only Delta guys have this mentality.
