You guys win.

Once again, if someone is at a viewpoint that can decimate my career (and yours), there comes a point, where internet niceties are thrown out the window.

That's a nice tall glass of nope. Stooping to insults only cheapens your points.

Heck, I can be in complete agreement on Todd's main point, but he's so freaking abrasive on teh internetz that I don't care to support him at all.

His behavior would have gotten him banned from APC multiple times over.

@Derg I really don't know what's happened, but I don't want this site to go away. I was reading and referencing JC long before I became a member. You can't google an aviation topic/question without something in the search results from JC. I've seen some heated discussions on here and even been part of them in the past. But, I've learned, I've learned that we are a community and while we seem to take joy in sarcasm and intentional puns, it's a great joy and personal pleasure to come to the site and catch up on all that's happening in the industry. I implore you to reconsider any feelings of pulling the plug. Your website is a juggernaut in it's own right, that IMO belongs on the interwebz. No matter how foolish some can be at times, the aviation community won't be the same without JC. Don't let it go. Please.

P.S. It's Sunday what are you drinking?

But let's assume for a second that the person you are talking to is incorrect. Do you think that treating them poorly makes them more or less likely to come over to your viewpoint? And in the grand scheme of things, who really cares if they come over to your viewpoint? If you make your position clearly, they with either take it or leave it, and it won't really matter either way. But if someone is a jerk, then that person makes it less fun and interesting to be here, and it also makes people less likely to hang around and be productive members later on.

I just have a no "•" rule in life. When someone is an • around me or to me, I get irrationally angry...which is why I have blown up at you on here before...well, that and the Scotch...

Sorry, but in my mind if the viewpoint will decimate careers of members on here, at a point if the line is crossed, oh well. I'm more concerned about the careers of folks on here.

Basic CRM dictates that if someone is doing something that will kill you, to take control of the situation, by any means necessary to fix it. Yes, you work up to the point (which I think Todd and I have done) of having to take serious action. But at a point you have to do what you need to do get your point across or else you may be killed.

Here is the thing though. It's pretty clear that all three of you guys are pretty set in your opinions on the matter. Even if he could possibly be swayed, belittling him has a 0% chance of making him go "wow, you know...you guys are right!"

So at that point you guys are just creating a hostile environment in a location in which you've been asked to chill and putting this whole forum at risk for the rest of us.

I'm not ok with that. I love this place.

Oh come on now. We are sitting behind computers. No one is in danger of dying.

I love it too. I'm pretty sure my wife thinks I love it more than her. :)

Steve, please relax. I'm just trying to get my point across, communicating so folks understand where I'm coming from. That's all.
I'm relaxed. Like you I am just stating my viewpoint so hopefully you understand where I am coming from regarding moderation here. It really isn't personal. I am just not going to waver on my position that content does not trump expected standards of behavior. I'm hoping that clear communication now will reduce the chances of misunderstandings in the future.

I've never seen you anything other than relaxed on here. At worst was MAYBE an enthusiastic face palm.

And scotch?

I'm more of a bourbon guy, but I can't really say I've explored scotch much. I just learned that I liked bourbon about three years ago, so I've been having as many difference kinds of that as I can. Maybe after that I'll branch out into scotch.

Dude. You've GOT to. I like a good bourbon too, but man... Tell you what, next time you are in Savannah hit me up. I've got a few bottles lying around.

I've been branching out into Irish whiskey lately.

I dunno man. I really go ape-crap when someone doesn't keep the courtesy going.

Understand.

If this conversation about line crossing was over flaps in the flare, yeah, I agree it shouldn't be over that.

What sparked this is a serious issue.

Honestly, folks who are as entrenched in their view points as I've seen on some topics, I know that they aren't going to change their minds. Fine.

However, if that issue can influence my(and others) career and that viewpoint is contrary to the success of that career, I would hope folks can see why a counter viewpoint can actually be very hurtful.

Again, the issue is that even if they are wrong, you being rude to them is hurtful to your own cause. It may make you feel better in the short term, but it certainly won't help.

In any case, I really don't think it matters what most of us on here think about many of these issues. Frankly, we are (for the most part) just along for the ride.

(That's the fatalist/nihilist in me talking.)

It's more than being "set" in our opinions. The counter viewpoint I feel can really hurt many on here long term.

You're right.

But if I rolled up to your house and threw all volumes of "Flying the Line" through your front window because I thought you should read them...I don't think it would have the desired effect.
