Delta Upgrade Time Vol. II

What's a joke is going from just over six-figure income as a 20-year career military officer to supporting a family of four on $25K before taxes as a regional FO.

Now that is funny
Doing it right now. I was making 6 figures as an O-3 before I got out....but I have the reserves to fall back on to make up for the regional pay for now

What base and plane is this on? Is this an artificially low seniority level at this particular base or is 2008 getting close to the 50/50 split line.

This is a NYC 88 (and to a lesser extent NYC 717) thing not a system wide phenomenon. It's incredibly good news but let's call it what it really is. Go to any other larger equipment in NYC or any other base and the the Capt seniority threshold goes up fairly quickly. Guys in the 8-9k seniority range have a lot of options right now.
That being said the QOL for the jr NYC 88 Capt is not all that bad, ESPECIALLY if they live near NYC and can drive it. NYC 88 Capts on reserve don't have it that bad. The ones I fly with aren't anywhere near as busy as their reserve FO counterparts.

Huh? No disrespect, but won't you have a active duty military retirement to go with that regional FO pay? Or are you a Reserve officer?

Edit: or are you talking about someone else? Again, what about their military retirement income? Saying someone with a 20-year active duty retirement PLUS first year regional FO pay (two incomes, total of what, at least $50k or more) is having as tough of a time as a typical non-prior service first year FO (what, $25k?) is sorta... hmm... well let's just say it makes me reach for my tiny violin. So says this E7.

Did I miss the part where I said I was looking for your violin?

I said it was "funny" and "a joke", not entering into a "my hardship is harder than your hardship" measuring contest.

I knew what I was getting into when I chose this path, and have financially prepared for it, but that doesn't mean that it does not still suck.

Have you been to any of the "vets in blue" job fairs for jetBlue? I think they are once or twice a year. Its a great company and they love to hire ex-mil folks from the demographics.

I was actually extended an invite to the one a couple months ago by a fellow JC'er, but wasn't able to attend due to being deployed.

I'm hoping to go to one this year. I would love to fly for them.

You two midgets have your fun. And for the record, I aint never pulling gear for you either.

I'll tell ground control we're coming to a stop, set the parking brake, let you get it all out while glaring patiently at you like this:

and then we'll continue toward the runway after your little tantrum is over. :) And I will still purchase the first round.
