Mesa Airlines

Yup, we still have 13 more 175s coming for sure this year. Any deliveries beyond that is speculation from our point of view, but we are always the last to find out.

I sure am glad I don't have to buy my own EFB.

I don't think they're forcing people to buy them. You can still use paper charts if you want. I flew with a captain last week who still only has the paper Jepps.

I'd rather use my own tablet than a company issued one. I don't want the company to be able to track what kind of apps I use or have access to personal data that isn't any of their business to begin with.

You'd be much better off with the company reimbursing you rather than supplying one for you.

They don't pay for headsets or suitcases either. It would have been nice if Mesa had bought me a shiny new iPad, but in the end this is a minor pixel in the overall picture.

Be careful with this mentality, it is what has killed this industry over the decades. When and where does it stop?

Don't get me wrong, I've been reading your posts on here for awhile and I respect you, so I'm not going to get into a big long "lowering the bar lecture." As a fellow mil guy I also say thanks for your service, I have a lot of respect for the Core.

But please please please be very careful with this line of thinking. It used to be two years of $15k/yr at a commuter and then your at mainline. Now it's ridiculously hard to get past a regional and I had Mesa and PSA guys telling me, "if your senior here it's the same as mainline anyways lol!" Ugh

I think you missed this reply from a Mesa pilot:
Yes, new hires are required to purchase their own ipad. No, you cannot ask for paper Jepps.

Every air plane has ship headsets and you don't need a suitcase to do your job. If you don't want to use the ship headset you are free to buy your own. The same should be for jepps. Paper Jepps suck and they cost the company a ton of money. By making guys buy thier iPads the company is saying a ton of money on Jepps, also with no back up AKA paper Jepps What happens when your iPad takes a dump?

But hey like JO (Your New Boss) says, as long as he has a stack of resumes he is paying to much.

If you're buying the IPAD, don't you own it, or are you just renting it?

Jeppesen, being the scam that they are, charges the same amount per user whether you have paper charts or an electronic version.

Like I said earlier, NEW HIRES are required to buy iPads. There are still a few senior guys using paper Jepps as the company did not force existing pilots to transition.

If an iPad takes a dump, paper Jepps are available as a temporary replacement.

You buy the iPad from whatever vendor you want. I already had one, so I just use it.

BTW, there is only one approved mount, so don't run out and buy one without first checking the documentation they send out with your class offer letter. You don't have to buy it from the suggested vendor either. You might be able to find one cheaper elsewhere, even with the discount from the vendor. One guy in my class found it at B&H Photography for a little less than I paid at Marv Golden.

Well I stand corrected then. Must be a recent change because when I went through training, which was just last year, they gave us the option of paper charts.

In the class offer letter, they don't mention anything about mounts, just that you need size iPad. In the first email I only recieved the offer letter, FOIA act, and th training agreement. Will there be more documents to come?

What is the approved mount type?

You didn't get the Mesa Air New Hire Pilot Information document? The approved mount is the Fat Gecko. Either single or dual suction cup is ok.

I'm not a fan of our Surface tablet.

But it's paid for and they paid me to learn how to use it and it's just got company crap on it.

I wasn't a fan of the Honeywell FMGEC on the 330, but, well, it's not my machine! :)
