They dangled something like this before when I was a CFI there. Nothing came of it. Great place to cut your teeth, then RUN! Like FAST!!!

They pay $17/hr for private, the king air sim is broke. The management is very reactionary and unorganized. overall not a great place to work. I would stay away.

$5000 signing bonus...for an entry CFI job...no way.

A friend of mine works there. He logs 100+ hours a month. That's one good thing I suppose.

100+ hrs a month is great! How does your friend like the work environment? What kind of schedule does he keep to get 100+ hrs every month? Does he take advantage of the free housing?

I'll ask him, and I'll get back to you within a day or so. As far as work environment, I do know you're teaching all foreign students, and the aircraft are maintained about as you would expect at any other pilot mill. I'll have to ask how logging time was for him during the winter months. I know they had some LIFR WX that put a hamper on their flying for a little while. He's part of the Envoy pipeline program, and at the rate he is accumulating time, I don't think he'll be at Sierra Academy much longer.

The full-time dudes at the place I teach at are banging out 100+ hours per month... and it's "make-your-own schedule." The economy has turned -there seems to be significant demand for CFIs.

What does being part of an "Envoy pipeline" get your boy that a guy with a CMEL and 1500 hours doesn't get? Not knock ...genuinely curious.

A $10,000 signing bonus once going to training. Envoy company vacation time accrual, 401K, and health insurance the entire time he is in the program prior to stepping foot on property.

When I left you did not get paid hourly, you were paid after your student passed a stage check/solo/checkride/etc. So if the school said that your student was supposed to solo in 20hrs....you got paid for 20hrs, AFTER he soloed regardless if it took 20 or 40 hours to get him there...Not sure if you get ground time paid for or not. Some students needed other student translators at times. And the housing they provide is subpar. STAY WAY FROM THIS PLACE, THERE ARE BETTER PLACES TO GO!!!!

If you speak Mandarin or Cantonese, you'll probably love this place. Use your language skills to explain to the students NOT to run into propellers..
One major benefit of teaching at Castle is that you can do 4 or 5 touch and goes without ever changing heading. :)

Hey guys I used to work there, its not all its cracked up to be. the housing is not free, its $100 a month taken from your paycheck. In the housing you'll find mold in the bathrooms, and the top 2 floors will get treated for bed bugs every month or two. oh and I almost forgot the a/c will get shut off at night during the summer when its still in the 90's after dark. lets talk managment... they suck horribly. everyone there is only worried about one thing. not getting yelled at by Dan which will happen so if that means throwing you under the bus then that is whats gonna happen. The planes... death traps. horrible maintenance due to the owner not wanting to replace parts to actually have nice planes. most of them are unreliable at best. there were two engine failures last year one at night ended up in a ditch. and since I left there has been one that filled the cabin with smoke on a solo student, one engine quit on an instructor.

Screw that noise

If it was/is so bad and dangerous a place then please please please write the FAA! Tell them how bad and tell them WHEN & IF rules/reg's were broken!

But wait, i'm sure it wasn't all that bad, i'm sure you or some of you waited until you had your precious 1500hrs. Ooh i'm sure it was worth & safe enough to wait until you reached your precious 1500hrs before leaving. But for everyone else, It's a death trap, stay away, the planes are falling out the sky. Please take it to the FAA.

Death Trap..... Lolol, our entire profession is a death trap! Lol, so your telling me no regional carrier or major carrier ever had an egine failure or smoke in cockpit? No other flightschool in America has had engine failure/loss of power? My employer did on the touch & go. Plus a mid-air deaths, plus CFIT 2x, plus solo accident/deaths, and etc... It's a great flight school non the less. Aviation is dangerous! Shinny airplanes or not.

Guys/Gals dont go to XXX regional, XXX major airline, or XXX flight school neither because smoke has filled their cockpit and every plane in their fleet is falling out of the sky everywhere. Granted no one died, but still, if you go you're most likely to be the one. Stop the scare tactics folks. All schools that train Chineese/Asians students pilots are dangerous. Zero-hero with poor english skills. Ok fine, If i'm lying then lets use logic: If not the dangerous congested Airspace, then student is dangerous, if not the student, then the often squaking Airplanes, If not the Airplane breaking/squawking often potentally having a engine failure, then your Solo student can be randomly dangerous break the airplane structurally or kill him/herself!

Why do you folks come to these Pilot Mills? Hours, Hours, Flight Hours to arrive at your regional airline of choice quickly for seniority scud run and make $25K-$30K/yr.

:bounce: Some of you folks crack me up!

I'm in Arizona, and i feel my life is in danger everyday i go flying in this airspace & with students who can't land after 35-40hrs and say Wictor when they really mean Victor. Training Asians to fly airplanes is a dangerous and a stressful profession (CFI gig), no matter which part of the country you are, or which flight school you attend! Man up / Woman up. As flight instructors we choose to be one! We get paid for it ! Its a profession, its a privilege (I think) to instruct some of the smartest indiduals in the world. kids (no, men & women) who not only have to learn how to fly but do it speaking a foreign language! These asian students are incredibly smart, brave, and respectful!

So no matter how shinny the cesspool, piper, or diamond is, its a very tough job NATIONWIDE training asian student's. You become a better instructor & pilot than average joe!

Let me know if i am lying!
