Delta Air Lines, Min Days/hours per month

At my current carrier, I can drop down to 0 days of work per month as long as we have enough reserve coverage.

Is this allowed at Delta (contractually)? Put another way, is there a minimum number of hours or trips per month that you must work?

Thanks

There's a minimum hours requirement for insurance coverage to be paid, but yes, we can drop to 0.

Thinking of leaving?

Cptnchia,

Thanks for the info! How often is that calculated? (every 30 days? So, If I took one month off, worked the next, then took the next off, would I be constantly on/off insurance?)

Generally, are you able to drop easily? (is there anything that prevents you from doing it at will like reserve coverage?)

Seggy,

I think my current employers future is very bright and upgrade is approaching quickly, but I loath commuting and cannot fathom doing it for 30 years. Delta has SLC and SEA bases.....

For those unfamiliar with our (Delta) Preferential Bidding System...a very general synopsis:
  • Each Pilot's Regular Line will be built within the Line Construction Window (LCW), which is roughly 7.5 hours plus/minus the Targeted Line Value (TLV) for the month.
  • Pilots may also request a Regular Line with Minimum or Maximum Credit, roughly...
    • Minimum: TLV - 7.5 to TLV (Lower Half of the LCW)
    • Maximum: TLV to TLV + 7.5 (Upper Half of the LCW)
    • The Administrator may limit the number of Min/Max only to ensure other PWA Compliance...think Lake Wobegon
  • The Average of ALL Regular Lines (Normal, Minimum, Maximum) in a Category is supposed to be within 60 minutes of the TLV for the month (roughly 75 hours).
  • The TLV varies month to month based on:
    • Pilot Working Agreement (PWA) restrictions - numbers, figures, etc...roughly 70-80 hours
    • Seasonal Flying as determined by Management
  • Each Pilot may then modify his Line by Dropping, Swapping, or Adding Pairings throughout the month... working to FAR/PWA Limits or dropping everything. :)
It really is a great bidding system that allows each pilot to be awarded whatever his seniority will allow.
