What would you tell your younger self before deciding to start a career in aviation?

A friend of mine is about to finish residency in a neurology program. She's very sharp, but already getting discouraged with how screwed up the doctor career field is. She just posted this on her FB page the other day:

Y'know what I like? How in the last 20 years "they've", "the system", "baby boomers", "stock holders", "executive leadership", whoever or by whatever mechanism have turned every career field into a complete and utter joke. I dated a lawyer for awhile and also wouldn't wish law school (and what follows) on my worst enemy. It's sad when a society is so top heavy that you can't even make a return on your investment as a doctor. The article sums it up nicely, people are really happy to have a doctor when they need them, same for pilots, how has compensation and job security so clearly missed the value placed on the position in society.
 
Most doctors and lawyers Ive met would not recommend their chosen professions to their kids... Just like most pilots wouldn't. The grass isn't always greener.

I'd recommend the kid actually find what drives them and pursue it, rather than trying to pick the career which has the greatest possibility of long-term profit.

Life is what you're living, guys. It's every day. And that's a good thing.

To that specific job I wholeheartedly agree. My wife incurred 80K in student debt between her RN and FNP. At that rate its worth it, but knowing what she makes vs the doctors she works in an urgent care setting with and their astronomical debt level, I imagine the financial payoff comes around age 63. Yes I know urgent care Docs don't make neurologist money. Then again there is a narrow gap between what my wife can't do and an urgent care doc can and a wide gulf between the urgent care MD and the Neurologist.
