What would you tell your younger self before deciding to start a career in aviation?

Let's say you had a chance to meet your younger you when at that time you decided you wanted to have a career in aviation.

What is one advice or warning you give your younger self who wants to start a career in aviation (not just the pro-pilot careers but any kind of aviation related career)? If you had been working in aviation for a long time, what piece of advice or warning would you give your younger self that your younger self didn't know about or expect when deciding on an aviation career?

Don't listen to either of your guidance counselors, they don't know anything about aviation.

Go to a 4 year school, party it up, enjoy college life, then join the military and make Uncle Sam pay for your training.

Oh and don't get your commercial right as the airlines furlough, that's not usually a good recipe.

"Dude, women LOVE jerks. Don't worry about it".

LOL, that wasn't the issue. Women are like kittens....all cute and cuddly when they are young. Then they get married, put on 150lbs, and gravity takes over from there. Their head splits open and they start spitting fire from places you didn't know they had holes. They blame you for everything. Take all your money and toys. And attempt to completely control your life even long after the divorce.

The funny part to the story is, I wasn't the one who married her. I was competing for her attention with another buddy of mine. He "won", they got married. And I dodged a nuke. Can't believe the amount of time I wasted on her while in school.

I still talk with my "competition". He never finished his flight training, though he got his private, he hasn't flown in years. He sells insurance to cover the alimony and child support for their 4 kids. Which he never gets to see because she some how got the court to require supervised visitations.

Meanwhile I am taking this hot asian chick from Cali 11 years younger than me who is paying her own way out here for a ride New Years eve in my cessna. Where she has promised to demonstrate some special co-piloting skills during our flight above 5300 feet. ;):bounce::biggrin:;):bounce::biggrin:

Moral of the story, plenty of time for girls, once you are a pilot. Don't waste your time before.....

besides.......

If you respect an airplane it will be good to you.
Airplanes don't have PMS to battle.
Airplane skin doesn't wrinkle as badly.
An airplane won't criticize your performance.
Airplanes don't comment on your piloting skills.
An airplane doesn't care where you were last night.
Airplanes don't care about how many other airplanes you have flown before.
Airplanes don't cost as much money.
Airplanes don't get pregnant.

"Pimpin' ain't easy, but flying ain't cheap".

My ninja.

Get better grades, and get all the dual credit you can in high school so you can get more college credit sooner. Start flying sooner. Get a job and save money like nobody's business. Don't go to school that doesn't have an R-ATP authorization in place for their aeronautical science degree program a year and a half after the rules changed. Don't let the school slow down your flight training pace to fit their schedule.

When people tell you something, regs in particular, ask them to cite their source. It is amazing the amount outdated and plain wrong information that is circulating.

I just learned that Terminal Control Areas are now called Class B airspace. ARSAs are Class C, and the Airport Traffic Area is Class D.

Whew. Glad I wasn't too far behind the 8-ball and end up being the last guy in aviation to find that out!

[I know. Most on here don't know what the hell I'm talking about].
