JC Surfers?

I've wondered that myself, I'd love to take a trip up there someday and check it out. Flying up and down the cost for a couple years definitely ignited a desire to take a few weeks and drive up the coast finding spots to check out.

That sounds like a great idea. My top picks for this area: The Hook, Steamer Lane, Pleasure Point, and (occasionally) the jetty at Capitola. There are some good spots around Half Moon Bay and SF, but I would say that Santa Cruz has some of the best surf around. I have fond memories of surfing SoCal in the summer/fall (when the water is warm enough to get away with board shorts and a rash guard).

That's cool, and I totally understand the concept behind enforcing good etiquette (without violence, of course). I love the vibe where I surf down in San Diego (never had an issue), but people tend to be very lax on etiquette. Everyone paddles for everything, and drop-ins are common. Can see both sides to that, but the "If you don't live here, don't surf here" stuff is pretty ridiculous.

Just south of it. Blacks is another great break, but I really like Scripps. I've been out there with the waves all to myself on a shoulder/head-high day, warm weather, nice peeling rights.

Yeah when I lived in Oahu for a little bit the locals were not nearly as bad as the at Sebastian Inlet, I grew up there and they still tried to kill me. But the mindset you have to have in oahu was just to paddle out and wait your turn, you can't go out there and just stomp on everyone(that should be common sense).

Yeah when I lived in Oahu for a little bit the locals were not nearly as bad as the at Sebastian Inlet, I grew up there and they still tried to kill me. But the mindset you have to have in oahu was just to paddle out and wait your turn, you can't go out there and just stomp on everyone(that should be common sense).

A buddy of mine says he's been able to paddle out at notoriously-localized breaks in Hawaii (Makaha, even), and has never had a problem. Just waits his turn. That's the attitude I've been taking as well, and have yet to have a problem.

It sure is. Don't make the long, steep walk down from the road to the beach without flip-flops or booties, though!

This was a few days back, but this was a fun time. Slow takeoff on these lefts were turning into a very fun, fast inside section. Not much size, but it was great!

Also, picked up a new stick (6'8 hybrid):

Fun times until a guy on a longboard ran into it on its first time out (should be fixed this week, though)...

I don't remember it being so bad, also in Fort Pierce I never found crazy locals.

Never surfed Oahu, but in Maui localisms is very strong, I went windsurfing in Hookipa and the Surfing spot to the East was locals only.

Like the new board! Dislike the repairs needed!

Congrats on the fish; I have a 7S which is one of my all-time favorites. Really maneuverable board and great for steep takeoffs.

Yesterday was fun - we're getting a little NW up here. Negative tide in the PM, but the swell is pretty good.

^Now that's a packed lineup!

Great WNW swell peaked here in SoCal yesterday... A buddy took me out to Sunset Cliffs (Point Loma), which is a prime winter swell magnet. Big, cold waves, but very, very fun. As the tide went out, sets built into the double overhead range, but still maintained a slope-y, fat, not-so-critical shape. The longboard worked fantastically... Lots of speed on tap. Definitely the biggest waves I've ridden so far, but the forgiving shape made it fun and not as intimidating as expected. Loooong paddle... The wave breaks about 1/4 mile out. Thankfully lots of good channels.

Oh and @fender_jag, a guy from Santa Cruz was there in the lineup with his joyless girlfriend. Sheesh, you guys DO like to surf, right? I wanted to tell him "Hey, welcome to San Diego. We're pretty chill down here. Relax and enjoy yourself."

Oh and by the way I can not emphasize this enough, if you guys are ever in central Florida and want to borrow a board please hit me up. I come from a family of 6 and we all surf, plus we keep extra boards around just in case our friends want to give it a try

Took the 6'8 out again today with the ding all fixed up. Great board... I'm amazed at how well the quad grips into the face. And the thing is fast, fast, fast. It surprised me how responsive it is, and didn't slide out or scrub off speed during the bottom turn. Still going to take a lot of work to get consistent with it, but today's session showed me that it's learnable.

I bought it about six or seven years ago, and after some repair work done, it's almost as good as new. What a fun board on the right day/right wave!

Nice! I like that thing. What length is it? Seems like a bit more rocker than some of the fishes I've seen.

Mine's somewhat the same. Good amount of entry rocker, but I'm impressed by how easily it starts planing. Really don't have to scratch into waves at all. Lots of width and volume through the middle, but I can duck dive it just fine (then again, I'm 6'0, 200 lbs.).

Thanks! It's a 6'8". I want to say the width is 21 3/4", but I'm not sure. The rocker is smooth and the board is extra buoyant, which is great for turns. The swallowtail is great for speed, too. Here's my longboard:
