JC Surfers?

I'd actually really like to get a SUP!

By the way, did anyone get a piece of the NW swell here in SoCal that rolled through on Tuesday and Wednesday? I actually went out on Tuesday, and it was a great time. 5-6' with overhead sets on a pretty forgiving reef break in Cardiff. It definitely opened up my comfort level quite a bit, and once I took the drop (took me a while to work up the nerve, to be honest)... Wow, what an unforgettable experience.

And @etflies totally missed it. ;)

I might have missed that one, but we had a hell of a paddle around session today. Again, sorry Moonlight didn't work out but you did go left, Zoolander! Looking forward to surfing/Mexican food again soon.

Haha, and it was a fun left!

Glad we were able to get a session in, man. Moonlight might not have been the best bet today, but it was still a good day. Thanks for the rolled tacos!

Are you wearing jeans? Hahaha thats awesome, gotta love the commitment! You must be dying to move

Jeans and winter boots. Can't wait to move, but my boards will take a while to get out there. Probably just go out with a few skimboards, and slowing jumpseating on fedex the surfboards.

Where are you moving to in LA?

Hey, speaking of which, anyone have any good suggestions on a 3/2 full? I have a cheapo Body Glove 3/2 at the moment, but even with water temps in the low-mid 60s right now in Socal, I was freezing the other day after a couple hours. Not to mention the shoulder burn from the stiff neoprene.

I was thinking about the O'Neill Psycho 1... A bit of cash, but I think it'd be worth it. Any other suggestions?

The Psycho is supposed to be an excellent suit and has gotten good reviews. I would also try on the Billabong Xero Furnace. My son bought that suit last year and I tried it out once and thought it was very comfortable and warm, yet lightweight. It's hella pricey though for the zip chest one that he got. The wrists and leg cuffs don't roll up or let water in. Check out the Quicksilver Fuse Flex (it's also pricey) and the Xcel Dry Lock. The Xcel is less expensive and I was eyeballing one in a shop a while back for myself for a possible future purchase.

You want durability, flexibility, warmth and comfort. Try some suits on, check out the zipper, cuffs and seams especially. The "fit" and mobility really matter. I'm old so I am not ashamed to wear booties too when it's cold out. My buddy Del who will also don booties keeps saying we'll need gloves and hats at some point. lol

A half zipper suit will give you a much greater range of motion/flexibility also. No zipper is the warmest but I hate getting in and out of them (again I am old) but you may not mind that at all. You want the suit to feel/fit snug but not to bunch up anywhere. There is nothing worse especially around your elbow and knee joints. It's really uncomfortable and annoying. Make sure you can fully stretch your arms up and out and bend down without any pulling from the suit. Try on several and see what feels the best for your build and frame size.

Thanks, @A Life Aloft! Xcel is definitely on my list, as well. I did save an extra $600 last month with some overs and keeping within my budget, so I'm definitely interested in something high-quality that'll last.

Thanks in part to you guys and your knowledge/support, I've made some great progress over the past few months. Nothing like looking down the line at the curvature of the wave tapering off onto the shoulder. In fact, last month I had the memorable moment of looking *up* at the lip while going front side down the face on one of our recent NW swells.

And the speed, man. Unbelievable. :)

It's amazing the progress you can make once you nail the basics and get out of the beginner stage. When you are decent at reading the waves and staying on the board longer, you really start to enjoy the rides so much better. It just takes patience, not giving up or being too hard on yourself and remembering to have fun and enjoy yourself along the way. I bet you feel much stronger while paddling and swimming now too. You've probably got some good moves down now as well as far as your maneuverability. I am so glad you've hung in there, man. Eying the lip........very cool. You're well past that stage of getting hung up in the lip and making great progress. Pretty fun huh? We will be heading to Maui again this winter for a spell/vaca just after Xmas and I can't wait to get some wave days in. Been a while for me now....too much work and too much busy in my tiny life.
