Air Wisconsin

Now, let me ask, what does that very rapid response tell you ?

Unless I misunderstood you, it really wasn't a quick response from the airline. The job has been posted since 10FEB14. If that's fast to you, best way to describe it is the company needs to fill the position, though I think a little over three weeks hardly qualifies as rapid or a sign of a company that is crumbling or on the verge of imploding. From what I understand they are looking to fill only one spot and at a regional that could be a tough ride being so short handed hence the need for some sense of urgency. Nevertheless, if something happens to Air Whiskey in the next year, I will publicly eat crow on this forum. In keeping with good humor, I am sure you will remind me ;)

Hey let's pump some life into this thread!!!
They advertised again about a week ago, I think it was....They called today. So things are moving. Not exactly sure which direction.
So they still haven't imploded nor declared bank rupture! Any other news? NYK, you moved on, correct?
What's the good word from Appleton? Hear yea, hear yea.....

I got a call from them today, they did a basic over the phone all HR questions interview. They will make decisions on face to face interview's on Friday. Good luck to all that applied.

The core group of dispatchers there have a lot of experience and if its your first gig you will learn a lot. The morning crew is a bit nicer but gotta start at 3am. Good luck to all.

Thanks for posting Corey. Good luck to you. Did you ask them how many dx they will hire this round?

I was there a few years. ATW is a nice town albeit not super exciting, if you can stand the very cold winters. Cost of living is decent and ZW had decent benefits. They seem to have a knack for finding a market for their planes so I think they won't go away anytime soon - but nothing is certain in this industry.

Thanks Manniax!
Good to hear that folks really liked it there... The town sounds sweet and simple and I checked and "you can dance if you want to"...ZW, They do have some sort of contract in place..They are TWU. So.....

Yeah I have never even experienced negative temps except thru the cockpit window. Certainly not -30 or -40F, that's just not right.
I did live in the Sierras one winter. Does that count? (or was that a HolidayInn Express?)

I didn't ask how many they were looking for, I doubt its that many seems like a smaller office.

When I got hired there were three in my class. In my experience they tend to hire 3-5 people at a time. However this is not an absolute and they may have changed things since I was there - but I doubt it's changed a whole bunch. I forget how many total dispatchers and coordinators were on the seniority list but I think it's around 30 or so - which isn't tiny but definitely is on the smaller size compared to the majors.

Checked my notes....I did ask. and they said...ONE. and only one. So.....good luck to me!

Not surprisingly people there tend to stick around until they get called up to the big leagues, if they're even looking. You will either love or hate Appleton. I loved it there and the only reason I left was a knee jerk reaction to them losing their United contract and I immediately regretted it. It's a good gig with good people in a good town that is relatively close to anything you might want. Milwaukee is an hour and a half away, Chicago is three. Winter can be pretty brutal but you get a nice payback in the summer.

I loved working there but hated the winters. A lot of experience on the desks there. Winter was just to brutal for me.

I remember one winter weather warning for severe cold when I lived there, which I saved...A WIND CHILL WARNING MEANS THAT A COMBINATION OF VERY COLD TEMPERATURES AND WIND WILL CREATE DANGEROUSLY LOW WIND CHILL VALUES. THIS WILL RESULT IN FROSTBITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA OR DEATH IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.

Yup, be prepared to bundle up there in wintertime. A lot of apartments there have garages to help ensure that you can start your car on winter mornings...

MSP is also a fairly short distance away from ATW, although I never drove there. However when we had union meetings it was common for the section president to drive from MSP to ATW and back in the same day. We actually have one person at my current employer who liked ATW so much that he still lives there and commutes here.

I think I know who you're talking about. How is Sutton doing?

I guess yeah MSP isn't too far, though the last thing I wanted to do is go somewhere COLDER so I never thought about it..

I don't like to use real names in the forum (especially of people who aren't posting here) but it isn't him. It's someone who started after you left.

Hey ManiacX,
Just curious, are names like Delta, United, Alaska, Southwest, American, American Eagle, Envoy,.....just to "name" a few...are those not REAL names?
Exactly who or what is it you are protecting? Remember, corporations are people too!

I am referring to real names of individuals. I thought that would be obvious in my response but I guess it wasn't.
