Ebola, Skin Cancer and paying money for career progression

Is it time for a career change? Statistically might not be the most dangerous job but we sure put ourselves at risk physically, mentally and financially all for an office with a good view. Might be time to explore a 32nd floor office with a window instead.

But seriously, this 2nd nurse was reported as being on a flight out of CLE. Is it time for us pilots to really start worrying? Seems like transmission may be somewhere between airborne and fluids.

Sigh... THIS IS WHY FOX/CNN/WHO EVER NEWS SUCKS.

They have been propagating this whole thing about how MAYBE IT'S AIRBORN!!!!!1!! Lolz! for several days now.

There is no evidence to support that. None. The CDC has never seen a virus mutate like that before. Ever. Could it theoretically happen? Sure. But it hasn't and there is no reason to think it will.

Know your facts. Don't embrace the fear. Otherwise the terrorists win... or something like that.
 
Airborne transmission seems vanishingly unlikely at this point. OTOH, it does seem that the viral load is higher, faster than in previous outbreaks, increasing the likelihood of transmission. In any case, the buffoonery on display by "the authorities" (CDC has no real control over state health response...states seem mostly to be asleep at the switch...local familiarity with isolation and monitoring procedures vary wildly, etc etc etc) should be enough to convince anyone that "return to your homes, consume, the Government will protect you!" is whistling past the graveyard.
 
Airline stocks took a nose dive today... They will probably continue a downward trend as the virus spreads and more US patients are declared. I have a small, growing fear that this could have a huge negative impact on the airline industry and the economy going into the holidays. Stagnation may not be a thing of the past after all...

With fuel being something like 40% operating costs of the airlines, it's done more help by dropping than Ebola ever could do negatively IMO.

Yea it's getting close to $80 p/barrel... Drill baby drill! But seriously, I do think Ebola will have a negative impact on traveling this holiday season. Word has it they are already seeing a number of cancellations at the ticket counters. Whether or not the danger of Ebola is real or just perceived, people are certainly scared. Just go look at the availability of disaster supplies!

People have been buying a lot of guns this week that's for sure. My friends up at my LGS said they have sold more this week than in the previous month or so. Peoples is scurred.

The price of oil going down should actually slow the drilling down. I saw something that the Saudis end up losing money if they can't get around 80/barrel for their oil

Yea I think I read that something like 90% of their budget is based on selling oil... So bad for them if oil gets cheap.
