Is it true that a medical exam is required to work in airport management or operations?

I learned from an airport ops coordinator that I am shadowing for a few weeks that he had to take a medical exam in order to be hired as an airport ops coordinator. I don't think it is those FAA medicals for pilots or ATC. But I think the format is similar to an FAA medical including asking about medical history, checking vision, hearing, etc.

My question is that is it really true that a medical exam is required to work in airport management or operations? Have you ever taken medical exams to work at an airport? I never heard of any kind of medical exam being required until today. If so it is as extensive and strict as the FAA medical exam?
 
Are you sure it's just not a requirement of that particular airport's management?

Sounds like a pre-employment physical.
 
DOT drug testing is required. As well as a normal pre-employment physical for most county/city airports. The physical is not related to the faa and is not regulated by the faa. You will be driving around the airport as a manager or airport ops, therefore you need to be able to see the 737 taxiing in front of you. All requirements will very from airport to airport. It is not uniform or regulated by the faa. It's typically regulated by the county or city port authority.
 
I worked in airport operations and management for five years @ PMDY and PWAK. A finger in the orifice was not required. Perhaps it is a condition of employment at that particular work site?
 
I work at KSLC With Ops and they required the standard pre employment drug test and a really basic physical agility test. Nothing too fancy
 
Pre-Employment Drug Test, Equivalent of Class 2 Medical, Physical Agility Test, and Full Background Investigation with Personal History Statement to boot. I was under the Police Department though, hence the extra scrutiny.
 
Hello again everyone. I have another question about the pre-employment physical exam for the airport operations position. Is it possible that I could fail the physical and not get hired because of a certain medical condition? Or is the physical more evaluative in that the physical determines which certain tasks in the airport operations position I can or cannot do. For example, say if I have poor vision. Would that prohibit me only from driving around in the ops vehicle to do airfield inspections and only allow me to work in the airport operations center? Are there any waivers to the medical requirements for certain medical conditions? For example, if I have poor vision, maybe I only wear glasses or corrective lenses when driving around in the ops vehicle?
