How did you guys do it?

The rest is very good advice, but I take issue with this. Of course you should let people discourage you, just as you should let them encourage you. Putting your hands over your ears and screaming "WORK FIVE DAYS A MONTH MAKE $300K FLY COOL AIRPLANES ALL OVER THE WORLD!!!!" every time someone explains/expresses something that might make you rethink your suppositions is not a good strategy for making a rational decision.

A rational, sound decision is made by acquiring all of the knowledge which is available, then analyzing it through the filter of your own desires, needs, expectations, etc.
You missed the part where I said don't be naive. ;) however I do see and agree with your point.

Well, and for what it's worth, I agree that one oughtn't be easily discouraged in anything, or one is very likely to wind up at BurgerWorld cursing the fates for not handing them everything they wanted exactly when they wanted it. I think we agree that the upshot is "make careful, INFORMED, rational, long-term choices". The interesting thing (to me, anyway) is that when you do this, your short-term, live-with-it-every-day, voice-in-the-back-of-your-head peace of mind is improved, as well.

Main campus? There is an aviation club on campus there. What degree program do you intend to graduate from?

I'm on track to graduate spring of 2016 with a degree in computer engineering. I'll definitely have to look into meeting with the club, it would definitely help.

Why do you care? You didn't go to one.

I, on the other hand, graduated from a Big 10 school.

To the original poster, don't under ANY circumstance leave your school early to pursue flying. Graduate from your Big 10 school and then take up flying full time.

Wrong! When you graduated, they weren't in the Big 10. Now me on the other hand, I DID graduate from 2 Big 10 schools.

How'd that game go tonight, btw?!? :p :D

At least half of the CFIs at the school I teach at are engineers who have built up the ratings to teach on the weekend.

So what I'm getting from this thread is transfer to Syracuse because they graduate the most talented/smartest people and cheer for the 4 time Super Bowl champion Giants. Also something about flying and debt.

Great, I believe there is a flight school at Bellfonte still. check it out and go for an intro flight/first lesson.
