Air Florda Redux ?

I don't know what this fetish is with reviving old airline brands. Air Florida, PeopleExpress, Braniff, Western, Pan Am...maybe it's the same reason so many re-make movies come out every year. People are just out of ideas.

I think its just a trend/fad. Once they see how much its costing them, the fad will end.

I'll add, what the hell is with the end of that article?
The original Air Florida folded in 1984, its demise following the January 1982 crash of Air Florida flight 90 near Washington National airport during a snowstorm.
The aircraft, a 737-200, slammed into the 14th Street Bridge shortly after takeoff and then sank into the Potomac River, killing 74 of 79 passengers and crew.
The National Transportation Safety Board said the aircraft crashed due to ice build-up, but pinned blame largely on crew error.
Um, OK. Great history of Air Florida...not like they were the first big successful Inter-state deregulation carrier that quickly grew from a handful of intra-Florida flights to an international carrier. But they did have that one crash. Damn media.

Dont forget Eastern. Half the folks flying probably arent old enough to even know who any of these airlines were. To them, its just another choice for a cheap airline ticket.

Dont forget Eastern.

Well, based on what we can see in the press, the new EAL seems to be a serious player. Time will tell.

Those not alive at a time when they'd know something about these other famous airlines will have no trouble learning about their histories. Google knows everything so we don't have to.

Those histories will only be of interest and won't control what a reincarnation of the name might offer. And yes, the chances of success are slim.

(Dangit, I just realized I dropped a fairly deep reference in a board full of pilots about half my age)

The story goes, when ^^ was visiting Washington DC (I think same visit as that picture was taken).
Eisenhower gave an aerial tour of the DC area to him. As they were flying over the Pentagon, he asks Eisenhower, "how long did it take you to build that?" Eisenhower said, something along the lines of 9 months. Kruschev said boastfully, "In Soviet Union it would take only 6 months!"

Again, they flew over another memorial, and Kruschev asks the same question, how long etc.. And same response, "Better, faster in Soviet Union!"

As they came back to the White House, they flew by the Washinton Monument, and of course he asks again, how long it it take to build that?

Eisenhower replied, "Well gosh I don't know? It wasn't there when we took off."

from wiki...

"The often used fake image of Khrushchev waving a shoe (above), and the original photo made at the United Nations General Assembly, September 23, 1960"

"Khrushchev was enraged by both Sumulong's and Macmillan's speeches, and loudly denounced them"

Especially brands for which more than 50% of your first page search results refer to a fatal accident.
