Um, OK. Great history of Air Florida...not like they were the first big successful Inter-state deregulation carrier that quickly grew from a handful of intra-Florida flights to an international carrier. But they did have that one crash. Damn media. The original Air Florida folded in 1984, its demise following the January 1982 crash of Air Florida flight 90 near Washington National airport during a snowstorm.
The aircraft, a 737-200, slammed into the 14th Street Bridge shortly after takeoff and then sank into the Potomac River, killing 74 of 79 passengers and crew.
The National Transportation Safety Board said the aircraft crashed due to ice build-up, but pinned blame largely on crew error.
I don't know what this fetish is with reviving old airline brands. ...Braniff...
Dont forget Eastern.
Braniff was re-started twice, once in the mid 80s and once in the early 90s, and I think there was talk about starting a 4th one recently but it didn't go anywhere.Someone's talking about a re-Braniff ? I missed that one.

Sincerely, the rest of us.
(Dangit, I just realized I dropped a fairly deep reference in a board full of pilots about half my age)
I don't know what this fetish is with reviving old airline brands. Air Florida, PeopleExpress, Braniff, Western, Pan Am...maybe it's the same reason so many re-make movies come out every year. People are just out of ideas.
