Aerial Mapping Pilots Needed

I didn't want to fill the page with your entire quote, but thank you! Very good and encouraging info, I think the idea about telling an employer that you're aware of the details of the job is a great idea. I'll write something up for myself.[/QUOTE]

It's no problem. If you have any questions or anything feel free to PM me.

You can prepare yourself for the life of a Picto pilot by also being aware that some years are worse than others for flight time and the flight times for the season can vary across the fleet by as much as 150+ hours between the highest and lowest time pilots. You really have to just mind your business and if you're constantly comparing yourself to your co-workers you're going to be disappointed at least some of the time. There might be one bad month where you do only 30 hours (while maybe your co-workers on another project are doing more than twice that) and it really sucks waiting for clear days or snow to melt, but the flying favors the end of the season. This year my March, April and May were all over 100 hours, but I spent a big chunk of November waiting for snow to melt and my December was my worst month ever.

We had an Aztec pilot with really bad luck who had he flown the average that season could have probably went straight to the regionals come Summer time, but due to a lot of downtime for mx and some bad projects he came up short so he had to fly a few extra months this Summer to get the time he was looking for. That said we also had an Aztec pilot do two 100 hours in a month and still top 160 hours.

We've had people on this forum ask if you can bring your pets and the answer was a resounding no. There was a guy who flew for Northern States who brought his cat with him while he worked, but he did so likely at the risk of losing his job if anyone at Picto or his boss found out. That said a lot of the guys would bring Playstations, Xboxs or had emulators on their computer that they could play in order to save on per diem and to kill time while hanging out in hotel rooms. It's great throwing football or frisbee and sometimes you get to some places where you can go for some pretty good hikes. Some of the guys would bring their remote control helicopters. You might also be able to fit a few golf clubs in a 172 and perhaps even a bag of golf clubs depending on how many bags you were bringing with you, but I'm not aware of anyone who did.

Heh yeah, I had really crappy luck last season and still flew over 500 hours in 7 months, which isn't a bad average at all really. Towards the end of the season there were some 9-10+ hour days where I didn't even want to look at an airplane anymore. It all comes down to luck pretty much.

I worked for Air America FC (Picto vendor) years ago and it was one of the best experiences in my life. I learned a lot about flying, time management, customer relations, aircraft maintenance and so many things I can't list them here. I would highly recommend AAFC to any low time pilot looking for alternatives to flight instruction.
After AAFC I moved to my current company Aspen Helicopters (fixed wing department) flying Partenavias. I started with a similar survey work but with a 3 week on / 3 week off schedule. There are several companies out there that can use pilots with Picto/Google experience.
And we've had a couple positions open up so if anyone out there is interested look us up.

Stay safe!

Everything I've heard about Aspen has been awesome including how well they treat their pilots. I'm a former AAFC guy myself and If I didn't already take a job offer I'd be doing everything I could to interview with them. You can't beat the 3 weeks on/3 weeks off. The kind of work they do is quite varied and interesting and the Partenavia seems like a very fun plane to fly.

Hey, are there any AAK guys or gals on here that can give me some info about the updated pay scale, and how long it usually takes to get a call back (Just curious). I finally put in an app today at 507TT and increasing everyday. I'm currently instructing CFI CFII MEI, always going up in actual (when the radar isn't red), and just got my high performance endorsement. I enjoy instructing but just want to get out and do some traveling.

Thanks

Hi, I was interested in some information about your company. Was wondering if you could give me some info on minimums, type of survey work, pay, etc... I currently fly C206's doing survey now. It's a good gig but would like to move into more advanced a/c or different type of surveying if the right opportunity came along. I enjoy the mapping/survey field a lot and I am not looking to go to the airlines. Doesn't seem like it would fit my personality... Sitting at just over 1100 TT, 50 ME. Been doing survey work for two years now. Any information is appreciated.

Anybody know if my wet commercial will do it with any of these companies? 265 total...

Of the four Pictometry companies the only one that I think will consider someone with that amount of time is Air America who will hire someone with a fresh commercial. Word is they're already inviting guys down for interviews in Daytona Beach, however if you're very serious about it and are excited to be working on the road a very well written cover letter and good attitude might get you a slot if the interviews don't go so well.

Otherwise do you have any interest in being a camera operator? Some companies fly with an operator working the cameras and with some pilots being CFIs and MEIs you can log an ok amount of flight time and make some pretty good money.

LOL....that guy is an idiot.
