First Aviation Job!

After 11 years of police work, I've decided to hang up my belt and persue my aviation career. I got a job offer as a full time CFI! It's partly a relief to not have to mess with law enforcement anymore, tied with the apprehension of learning a new trade. There have been some good memories and a lot of things I'd rather forget in LE, but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. So now we head up to a new area on September 5th and I'll try to do my best to help people learn how to fly! I'm pretty excited and I look forward to serving as an example and helping people meet their goals. I love to fly, and the opportunity to make a living at it....very nice!
 
Congrats! I know the feeling of changing careers... It's both exciting and a little scary. Seven years for me now as a full time pilot, and I have no regrets despite my roller coaster career. Best of luck, and my only recommendation is to go 121 ASAP.

Congrats to the OP.

I was curious why go 121 ASAP if you don't mind me asking?

Just my opinion, but after messing around with charter and corporate for a few years, I finally went 121. I would have been significantly better off in almost every way had I made that my focus from the start.

There's a lot of 121 hate out there, which I later found out is based mostly on ignorance.

Like I said though, just my opinion formed from my own experiences.

Oh cool, thanks for sharing.

I was just curious cuz I'm currently 135 and am looking into future avenues in the future.
 
Get some turbine time and get a job with the Feds, with your LEO time, you can make it help you out .
 
"Everything happens for a reason" cliche, but true. Hope you find the rewards you seek in this industry.

I've changed careers so much is not even funny. Shameful to say I have been chasing the high income ladder to pay for the low wage dream. But its the only way to be debt freeeeeeeeee :cool:.


So have you ever thought of being a fixed wing LE pilot??? I know in AZ and some other states there are a few. Including Federal LE (ex: CBP)
