What is your goal

and are you there yet?

The furthering your career thread got me thinking about making this thread, for those who are making this a career and those who just want to get a ppl and fly for fun.

I have not met my ultimate goal but I'm currently very happy with where I am for the time being and see it as a stepping stone to where I want to be ultimately. My long term goals are to work for a cool family part 91. I don't really mind what equipment I'm flying as long as I don't wear a uniform or work more than 40 hours a week most of the time. I'd like to be able to pursue some things that make me money on the side and to have my own airplane to fly for fun.

Make enough money flying airplanes so that I can quit flying airplanes early enough in life to enjoy the things I love. I enjoy my job but when I can walk away free and clear, I don't see having much trouble hanging up my wings.

I can see not wanting to fly for money, I think ill always want to fly for fun though. I imagine I'll make more money from other endeavors besides flying and I could cook all day and that would make me happier than a pig in... but I would still want to fly for fun. What are the things you love?

To fly privately in Alaska before I croak, maybe learn to fly a float plane, stay fit, figure out/decide once and for all when and how I am going to finally retire, live long enough to see all my grandbabies grow up, spend more time relaxing and doing fun things, don't get any more "ailments", and continue to live with a remarkable and beautiful woman. Oh, and hope for better knee treatments in the future that health insurance companies will actually pay for.

Every goal I have set for myself in this career has been changed at some point for one thing or another.

There really isnt a "goal" at this point except to keep flying and have a long career doing so.

So, in this example, is a C172 the Lamborghini and the A380 a School Bus? I'll take the School Bus.

Lol no. I'm imagining some crazy person paying you 100k a year to fly an extra 300 upside down. My point is if it is a purely financial decision I take the higher paying job regardless of the equipment, if the pay is the same I take the plane that is more fun to fly. I don't understand the desire to fly something only because it is "big."

However, I have had way more fun in a 172 than I have a King Air.

Edit-and how did you think 172 when I said Lamborghini?

I've had way more fun in my 15 hours in a King Air than my 700+ hours in a C172. Unless it was my C172 time on floats... Getting paid to fly something buoyant would be pretty cool!
