MT Propellers

Any tricks to learn about PAKF? I will be in Cold Bay in a month or so.

Be careful going out the chain when it's windy - and it will be frequently. Also, full fuel everywhere you go out there (in a little airplane anyway). It's not uncommon for the wind socks to point at one another out there, call Grant in CDB for a local pilot to talk to.

Looks kind of Crooked Creek. Same basic dimensions. Looks kind of fun. Pilot Station is another one that gets interesting. Especially in a fully loaded CASA.

What sort of airstrips were you taking the CASA to? the Air Force here had them (300 series), until they realized they couldn't really use them for anything, some of the Twin Otter captains have flown it and said it`s a massive PO....

The only non-STOL airplane (well other then the 206) that is really impressive as a bush plane is the LET410...

Nothing as crazy as what you operate into down there. For what we do it works very well. Crooked Creek (http://www.airnav.com/airport/CJX) and Pilot Station (http://www.airnav.com/airport/0AK) are the two of the more interesting strips we operate out of. Most of the runways are pretty good out here. Over the years they have redone most of them. We have a lot of building supplies and oversize stuff to move out here. So the CASA does very well for it. Like taking about a 5000lb drill rig out of a 3000' strip. Sometime we would get odd charters to move core samples out of mining strips like this.

Who makes that nose wheel fork?
I am not sure who makes it.

I like it better then a 206, the only real issue is weight and balance, you really need to be careful in the 207, they stopped flying them here because of that...
What do you like better about it? It certainly is a sensitive one. So far no issues other than it can be a pain to turn around when tail heavy and on a narrow strip.

We fly a lot of bodies, a lot...just easier to put them in a 207 and you can still carry 2-3 pax, in the 206 on combi flights we often run out of volume but we would still have room for like a pax or more cargo. When we fly into indigenous villages we have a lot of light passengers (lots of kids), the extra 1-2 seats could be very handy, loading a 206 at 150% (Pax) gets very tight.

Also mining equipment fits better in a 207.

We don't load the planes ourself and the W&B is not made considering cargo location at the different stations (just total weight in the cabin and in the pod) so the 207 would be very CG critical if the guys don't pay attention how to load stuff in it.

Do you guys have 550s?

Gotcha. We have the 520s. Wish we had the 550s.

Im curious as to what weight and balance issues you speak of? 207s can carry a hell of a load (to 1,000 msl) and if it's at gross and tail skid isnt planted on the ground its in CG.

@swisspilot I want to hear, too. We routinely haul five 200lb-ers and their bags, or end up just packing the entire airplane full of freight and bags of mail until it's pretty much at gross and neutral (or less) around the landing gear...and good to go. We don't even use the "Bethel rule" for 207 w/b.

I mean, it's not impossible to get any airplane grossly out of CG... but you'd really have to try to do it on the 207.
