Easy way to fix that. Just tell the tower you need to go around. When they cancel your landing clearance, look at him and say firmly, "You are not cleared to land. Go around."

Of course pro standards doesn't help either. I had a guy who I wanted to talk to pro standards about after not resolving our issues, only to find out the guy is a pro standards rep.

Not the time nor the place to fight for the plane. My judgement said it was an issue best discussed on the ground (especially since it was a very recently disseminated change to the book). I didn't know until the shut down check that his response would be that though.

This guy is wildly unprofessional. He also loves to taxi single engine on snow covered taxiways. And yet he will openly talk about Colgan guys running 200s off of taxiways in the gate area in front of Delta pax.

I guess you have to weigh the situation, buts an option if things get that bad.
