JetBlue Window?

Heard a couple rumors that the window was supposed to open in July (believable) and that JB was going to start offering sign bonies (not so believable). Any blue pilots able to confirm or deny?

Stuffs in just waiting...

There's a bonus to new hires to make up for the lack of pay raise in the latest PEA. I can see how that could be misunderstood to be a "signing bonus."

I'm hearing the same about the window, but who knows??

What's a PEA again? Too many acronyms in this aviation universe!

And furthermore, what exactly does the bonus entail?

Pilot Employment Agreement. I'm not a new hire, so I can't speak to the details. It was (if I remember) $6000 upon completion of your first year. That makes up for the lack of pay raise in the latest agreement for new hires. It's done that way due to an old contractual stipulation that's too long to explain here, and will go away once we have a CBA.

Oh, okay. Thanks.

Oh okay fantastic. Thanks for the information. Keeping fingers crossed I'll get a call this time, not sure how competitive I am compared to many others out there.

The target keeps moving. I'm not sure what the secret formula is. I do know that they recently increased the PIC competitive mins.

Really? I figured the PIC mins would be on the decline.

Negative. In fact, the rumor is the competitive total time is higher as well. I'll ask around and see if I can find out what it is.

The PIC requirement is not a turbine requirement. It's a command time requirement. So if you have 1000 hours flying a Cessna 172 as PIC, that counts. That's directly from the horse's mouth 2 months ago.

We had a wave of people who had difficulty in training, and I think the new requirements are in response to that. We have plenty of applicants, so there's no downward pressure on hiring mins.

I was told by a recruiter in April that 5000TT, 1000TPIC is currently the competitive range, but I know people with not even close to those times getting calls for interviews. Was told next application window will open in July, and that the competitive range could be adjusted again. It was also mentioned to me that there have been issues in training with some new-hires, but no specifics on that. Rumor mill says some previous 135 and military guys have trouble.

Great info y'all! Thanks for looking into it. I've only got 2200 TT, 1,200 PIC, and 250 TPIC, but hey I'm gonna keep throwin my stuff at them until they tell me to go away

Absolutely. Do you know anyone here? Go to Women in Aviation next Spring. The recruiters tend to be there. I'm not sure about other career fairs.

The biggest thing is to not give up, no matter where you are trying to go. Network.

Negative.

Competitive mins for the 'sought after' carriers won't be coming down for a while.

The second and third tiers, of course.

My "Step" Grandpa sat on the steps of Miller Brewing Company every day during the Great Depression. They told him to go away. He retired from there.

I think if I told my dad that I applied, electronically, to a company which I wanted to work for and stopped there, he'd punch me in the gut.

And rightfully so.

I first applied when I got my ATP in 2009, since then I have applied in every single application window as soon as it opened. I have kept my profile up to date the past 5 years, however I am still waiting and ready to apply again when the next window opens, maybe the 7th time will be the charm :D

Does the chief pilot office accept resumes/LORs from current pilots?

The weird thing is I've seen jetblue hire some pretty low time people straight out of lowball south FL 135 charter gigs. Same with Spirit. I don't get it.

Nepotism or well connected into the network maybe. Does JetBlue even hire many folks without some sort of internal recommendation?

Everyone in my new hire class had multiple high up recommendations/people pulling strings for them. I have yet to find any new hires who don't have at least one good internal rec, though I'm sure some do exist.

It's not about qualifications (beyond the competitive mins). Like the rest of the world, it's about who you know, and how well you network.
