The ugliest spot in Juneau...

I should try that place. I've pretty much been sticking to The Island, The Hangar, "Mi Casa", Donnas, Breeze In, a sushi place downtown and ... my house. xP But mostly Island.

Aaaand then you'll get your first paycheck and reality sets in. I remember that phase. Now our going out mostly consists of hitting the Broiler about once every 2-3 months,

Yep. I'm trying to re-learn how to cook at the moment... though that's not exactly cheap, either!

To be honest, I've been eating out 95% of the time for the past seventeen years, and when I cook it's an all-out special-occasion thing. I'm adjusting, though! I need to find a good place to acquire protein a bit cheaper though—shopping at costco makes me a bit depressed (I mean, seriously... I'm a size small, but all their sizes start at medium. And why the bleep don't they have briefs!?), but I may have no choice!

You thought everyone was bigger in Texas. Lololololol.

By the way, the punchline to this is that the ugliest spot in Juneau ... is still more beautiful than almost anywhere else. ^.~ What I didn't get in the pano was the giant mountain behind the Home Despot, nor how pretty the subtle colors of the sunset were. ^.^

Nor how happy I am to be here.

Stay for the winter.. the Juneau wonder will quickly fade.

This is a genuine question, not an attempt to dismiss your opinion: why would it? I spent a bit of time here this winter, and I absolutely loved it!

In my life, I hear things like that all the time ... about nearly every aspect of the things that I do or the places I live... but I have yet to experience the effects so described. I genuinely like things, and enjoy the things that I choose to do and the places I choose to do them.

What's not to love~?

Plus hockey, Eaglecrest, lovely darkness, filtered light, crisp cold and freezing fog? Heaven~

Now I'm not saying that there isn't some weird ... like ... yeti that wanders around in the winter and rapes everyone unhappy or something. (But hey, who knows, maybe I'd find a way to like that, too!) If I'm missing something, then I'm missing something. I'm not sure I'd like Bethel any time of the year, but maybe. I'd never move to the desert, because it's anathema to me and I can never find it beautiful—pretty, at best... but if there's something I'm missing about Juneau, I haven't been exposed to the lack yet... and I don't think I'd ever get tired of it.

Actually, discounting the villages, my very unscientific, very anecdotal observation is that the obesity rate here is waaaay below the parts of the south that I have spent time in.
