Android Only EFB Thread

So with whatever devices are out there right now, I don't know much about tablet stats and such, but I do know I want to stick with an Android tablet. From what I've been able to read, some say 7-8'' is great, but others say in a non-cramped cockpit a 10'' is a great size (giggity), with others saying even 10'' is too big even in a LJ. Can anyone give feedback about what has worked for them?

I'm considering:
Nexus 7 (2013) w/ 1.5ghz Snapdragon
Galaxy Note 8.0
Galaxy Tab 3 8.0
LG gpad

As far as software goes I forget which one, but Naviator and Avare come to mind as well as Garmin Pilot. At this point in my life, it looks like professional aviation is over, it would mostly be farting around in single engine recips once a month.

I use a 7" tablet/phone. Can't go wrong with 7 or 8, imo. I use a combination of Fltplan and FlightPro.

as for size goes I have an iPad 2 which is 9.7" and its a bit bulky, I wish we had the mini instead because the size would be less intrusive.

Any comment on hardware?

GPS is nice but not required.

plan on putting antiglare screen protector to help with the sun, so a capable bright screen would be nice.

I have an old Asus transformer. I really like having the choice between a notebook and tablet form factor. I wish I'd gotten a 32GB version instead of 16, though--I can't figure out how to store aviation app databases on the SD card.

I think Garmin pilot looks better, but now with flightpro (used to be avilution) changing it up I think I'll try that.

Garmin is buggy, sometimes downright frustrating, poor resolution on maps even when set to high quality, and customer service has never actually solved an issue I've had. It's clear they don't really care about Android and focus on ios.

I ran Avilution for about 6 months a year or so ago and was very happy with it. It looks like the new version has a whole bunch of a improvements and their customer service was excellent when I had an issue. We are getting EFBs here in the next month or so and I'll probably load a copy of Flightpro on it once I get it... assuming they are androids.

So you really have your pick on what tablet you want to use? No one in particular jumps out? That's a great and crappy thing, so much to scour over...

I haven't actually checked what's out there recently. I've had a Nexus 10 since they first came out and really like it. It *is* a bit bulkier than I'd like, although the screen is great for watching movies. I've seen a bunch of people with the Nexus 7 and that seems like a good sized screen.

I have a Nexus 7 2.0 and I run garmin pilot. The internal GPS is adequate even at 140kts and it has good battery life and a nice screen. Garmin pilot gets better with every update, and I have had no glitching issues with it since I went to the nexus tablet. Prior to the nexus, I had the cheaper Asus transformer and garmin pilot did not run smoothly on it and the GPS couldn't keep up above 80kts so I had to buy an external receiver.

I would recommend nexus products to anyone looking to buy android. The OS is much more stable without all the ad-ons that the manufacturers put on it

Just get one with decent specs. If I were in the market, I would get a Nexus 7.

I did go with the Nexus 7, thanks for the help!
