WAY faster

Air Borat?

What're the odds on a someone right at 135 mins getting a PHX base? I assume it would be a PA-31, but with staffing issues I'm seeing at AMF, could you "respectfully" request the 99 based out of PHX?

I would say getting PHX is definitely do-able but you would more than likely get the PA-31 but it doesn't hurt to ask about the 99

In my 6 months in PHX, I'd wager that half of the new hires that went there were PA31 and half were BE99. Comes down to need of the company and qualifications really. Realize if you get the PA31 you will probably initially be out station based.

Sat down with a fairly senior AMFer over beers the other night. Sounds like they're hurting for pilots but also somewhat aware that they have to change their incentives in order to maintain staffing levels. At least the Cooch is finally retiring. Still, the flow for AMF is like 95% to the regionals at this point.

I tip my hat to the guys that manage to avoid it, but they are truly the exceptions.

Appreciate the insight. I'm no where near 135 mins yet, but we would love to move back out to Phoenix. I dunno, in this climate, being a willing participant to the suck I think would afford you some bargaining power as far as base goes. Cross that bridge when I get there I guess.

Thanks.

Which largely takes the point of going to AMF away.

There is no point, if the end goal is 121. There is no point in going to AMF if you meet part 135 IFR mins, because you are just that close to meeting ATP mins. There is also no point in staying there if the end goal is 121 either.

If your end goal is 135, it's not bad. Otherwise it doesn't make sense.

For sure. It is a great first part 135 stepping stone. Especially hearing that they will now start hiring VFR captains again. I don't know how many years its been since that has happened but I bet it is a decade or more.

Internal recs will go a long way, thats about the only shot somebody has going strait from AMF to a major.

Wow, I didn't know that. I wonder what runs will be VFR.
Also IMO, if you have the mins and want to do 135, I think it's better than the AK gigs because after 3000 hours of 207 time.... well you are still barely hire-able in anything but a 208. After 3000 hours of multi and turbine PIC, well you can actually further your career.

Ya the AK route is for somebody who really wants to go out there specifically I feel like.

And the VFR captain thing is just something I heard so I dunno how true it is. But given the current hiring troubles, I totally believe it.

I still don't think it's a bad place to go to diversify your resume a bit, for yourself. I don't know if it matters(It SHOULD!), but you can get international experience here. You won't at a regional(Canada doesn't count). That is a perspective that is worth getting IMO. Not everyone that comes to AMF can get it though...
