Delta Hiring Update

based on johns smartass comment I figured that to be the case....

A CA I flew with on friday was telling me about him sitting in the jumpseat around 1990 or so on a new A320 with an old Southern guy in the CA seat and another old Southern guy in the jumpseat trying to decide if he should bid the 320 off the DC-9. The CA spent the whole flight showing him the stuff we take for granted on the Boeings and Airbuses these days... the VNAV, autothrust, FMS, and so on and so forth.


At the end of the flight the CA asks his buddy what he thought of it. (cue southern accent) "Well, it's kind of like you spend all this effort pushing a big rock up a hill, then let it go once you get to the top and say "Look! That rock rolls down the hill all by itself!'"

Some did, some stayed. The mega poodle hath departeth....eth.... Personally, I'd be taking a paycut going to the 330 at this point! Not that I wouldn't take it... I'm hoping the gravy train calms down right about when I can hold the big bus so I don't have to look back over with envy at the green slip party still going on. With this latest bid, looks like they are trying to nix some of it on the CA side. I'll take 717A, too. That's a nice cockpit... I'm not sure what that thing was in the way of me seeing the screen, though. yuh..... yuh....... yome? yuk? Something like that. :)

Not to rain on your parade, but I'm over 2000 numbers away from holding an A seat, and I'm probably what, 1000 senior to you?

Easy to solve.

Walk into the ATL pilot lounge, make lots of sudden loud noises and scream "OBAMA'S RUNNING FOR A THIRD TERM! I HEARD IT ON FOX!" and you'll have a least a few hundred guys "stroke out".

It's all about the seniority numbers and no, I'm not above doing that. I'm that kinda guy.
 
When I was at Skyway, I was the kind of guy who dreamt about screaming "United is hiring! But first, they want you to beat yourself with this red brick! Grab one, quick! TAKE THIS ONE!!"

I guess you could say my parents would never buy me an "ant farm" when I was a child.

I'm about 2000 away from any A and similar to the 330B. 10,200 seniority. No raining, I'm planning on being here another couple years until the deliveries and attrition takes hold. I'm hoping "coverage carnage" holds up until then.

That was in your new hire package, wasn't it?

You know the post-happy hour post-dinner "You know skipper, we should drop by the Sultans of Kebab and pick up some breakfast for tomorrow" and then watching him eat it right then and right there was worth a few numbers.

That and, "I hear the buffalo wings here are great! I just had some last night so I'm going to get a salad" works too.

The regional version of that is the Otis Spunkmeyer pastries from the free breakfast at the comfort inn. Grab one as you head out the door. Later in the day "hey, i grabbed this thinking I would eat it later, but turns out I'm not hungry. Do you want it?"

No pilot can refuse free food. And those things are about 4 months worth of saturated fat.

Pretty much the only reason I'm limping up at a pace of ~10/mo. But hey, at those numbers its only 30 months till I upgrade!
