"A pilot killed in a small plane crash near Blackstone Country Club in Douglas County Wednesday has been identified as Gregory Dirk Pelley, of Englewood, the Douglas County Coroner's Office said.

According to the Coroner's Office, the 53-year-old died from multiple blunt force injuries when the Piper Aerostar 601P he was flying crashed near Otero Drive and East Phillips Place in unincorporated Douglas County, just southeast of Aurora.

He was a pilot at Frontier. A Frontier employee told 9NEWS that Gregory Dirk Pelley was a pilot with the airline.

The Frontier employee says Pelley bought the plane around two weeks ago. The employee says Pelley was tinkering with the plane just days before the crash.

Former NTSB investigator Greg Feith says the video of the Pelley flying low and doing tricks raise some red flags.

"It is a populated area. [There are] very nice homes there. It may be that he was flying the aircraft over [a] friends [home], and whatever maneuver he tried to execute he was unable to do it."

He said the Pelley's maneuvers violated FAA regulations, because the plane was too close to homes. Feith also said the plane was too large for some of the tricks the pilot performed.

"One of the things investigators are going to look at is to see if he over-stressed any part of the air frame or the flight controls," he said. "He may have during the course of trying to pull up broken a part of the airplane off that affected his ability to control the airplane."

The Frontier employee says the plane Pelley was flying was designed to do aerobatics. The employee says Pelley was one of the airline's best pilots. The employee said flying was his passion."

Sad, sad mess. Thoughts with his family. Damn.

I didn't write the words....just copied and pasted them from the online article in the local newspaper there. People make a lot of odd comments and get quoted by the media after something like this happens.
No, making fun of article.

Wow, that is pretty close to my house. I can't imagine doing anything low level out here, plenty of towers and houses.
