Delta Hiring Update

Where are you, ATL-based?

I'd probably do SLC so I can sit reserve at home, the way God intended.

Yep... We aren't allowed to go west of the mississippi river on the ATL airbus, so I'll never see you. :)

Enjoy the green slips! I'd be taking a pay cut to go to the A330.

Things really aren't adding up for the massive 7ER displacement now, haha.

Come on over to mini-fifi, Derg! I need your employee number for my no fly list. :D

I never thought there was going to be a massive displacement but I don't see any backfilling after this summer as guys bid off. The crew planning updates indicate this is true and state that they will displace if necessary. The openings on the 7ER in ATL aren't new. There were more than a few vacancies unfilled there on the last bid. Like it or not some 757's and some domestic 76's are leaving.

This I can agree with.

Is that because of call out time?

Yeh.

Here's my quandary.

I'm a commuter so I'd want to hold a line. I can hold a line on the MD-88/90 but it's not economically worth it to fly it. Now if we were rocking two incomes, I'd do it.

The A320 is about my minimum economic baseline to make the jump to the captain's seat, but I'd be commuting to reserve in NYC or DTW. If I'm going to be on reserve, I'd prefer a base closer to home like SLC. I obviously wouldn't pull short call but long call would much better making a 90 minute jumpseat as opposed to 11 millionty hours to DTW and especially NYC.

@Derg, can you hold LAX or SLC 737 Captain? Wouldn't that pay be better than the Airbus?

I'm making more on the 320 than I would be on the 330 or 767-400. We are way short on the short bus... I barely even try and hit 100 hours credit every month while flying about 50. The 320 captains that are pushing it are making upwards of 400k.

Making big bank in comfort? Yes, I'll take it.

Senior guys are bidding rsv and "rolling thunder." Last guy I flew with that was on rsv was already at 130 hours for the month.

Not familiar with the term.

Out here reserve goes senior because (normally) guys never get used. I can't even hold reserve most of the year.

When you get a premium trip on your off days, the credit goes 100% above guarantee and the days that were violated "roll" to the end of the trip. Guys bid the first few days of the month off and roll through the month. We've had a number of guys not fly a single trip on rsv that wasn't a premium trip, resulting in 150+ hours a month.

Not yet, at least I don't think so.

Too long of legs, too small a cockpit and I've heard enough drama about the -900 that it's skuuuuuury.

Operation "Rolling Thunder" is very, very profitable. If you're on reserve and have good seniority and flexibility… Cha-CHING!
