Delta Hiring Update

Just went to a job fair and had the pleasurable experience of talking to they're recruiters and pilots!

Anything Doug says trumps this, but according to her because of all the stagnation they'll consider FOs with 3-4000 SIC jet in lieu of turbine PIC.

I hope that's true, but there are probably just as many stagnated captains to fill their coffers. Every time I have a mainline jumpseater and they find out how long I've been here they all ask why I dont go ahead and upgrade so I can get out. Uhmm.

About three guys walked up to the table and started talking to me as if I knew them, but knew the whole "backstory".

The captain asked, later, "Who in the hell are you, some reality TV star or something?"

I'm Doug Taylor Beotch !!!!

I'm sure you responded with something akin to this...

Pit Boss!!!!! You can smell the joint from a block away! Frankly, the best BBQ ribs in my somewhat recent memory. My flight out to my last LOFT was cancelled so I had a shorter stay and didn't make it there. Very disappointing.

To return you to your originally scheduled programming, a very recent announcement on the dlnet said they plan to hire 50/mo starting April, 2014 thru April 2015, with an eye to adjustments should attrition/fleet plans increase. Great news and, frankly, a bit overdue cuz they've got a whole LOT of pilots to hire !

So, what does this mean for you ? Well, it's great news and I just learned a couple of things, the most important of which concerns YOUR airlineapps.com application data.

Your responsibility. Don't ya just hate this individual responsibility stuff ? After the first 60 years, it's REALLY a drag. :D

It seems that your worst enemy is any GAP in data. Gap in residence history ? Gap in employment history ? Entry error ? Makes no difference how irrational the application process is or how innocent your omission was.

Want to get your app tossed to the bottom of the stack at first glance, regardless of how qualified you are, if/when it's seen by the HR screeners ? OK, allow a gap in that data.

Makes no difference how "fair" or unfair that is. (Fairness is a schoolyard concept for children.) It's Delta's party so they get to make out the guest list.

So, you've looked at your apps.com data ten times ? Great...good decision. Look at it eleven times...then twelve. I'm told it's like reconstructing your life from birth...not an easy task....ample opportunity for error.

If you goof and show them a gap, get tossed...end of the road for you ? Hard to say...maybe, maybe not...they won't say. No way to tell at this stage but it's a palpable setback. I'm sure all the internet experts will have something to say. IT'S A VERY COMPLEX PUZZLE...MOST OF WHICH IS UNKNOWN TO OUTSIDERS.

But, it'll sure put you at the back of the pack at a moment in history when getting hired NOW will measurably alter your career trajectory vs getting the nod five to ten years from now.

Now you know almost everything I've learned. I offer this info because I wish all of you the best.

Found this on another board and thought some might find it interesting. My apologies if the cross link is inappropriate. Kind of debunks the myth that we're not hiring Endeavor pilots. I heard the same false rumor about Continental's hiring when I worked at XJT. Many of the loudest perpetuators of the Continental myth probably never bothered putting an app in and if they did, they certainly never updated it. Complaining about my neighbor's cousin's niece who is African American, American Indian, blond, has 15 FAA violations, and is still a probationary XJT FO is much easier than actively pursuing a job I guess.

Keep working at it and stay positive, this train has barely left the station.

I got the email from them claiming a gap in history and to this date I can't find it. I have been over it a bazillion times and haven't found squat! Hopefully I can either find the mistake or it was a mistake on their end (not likely). I would hate for it to be tossed out erroneously.

They're hiring them because they have to but the pass rate isn't very high I guess. @PeanuckleCRJ would know more I believe.

From an Endeavor line pilot perspective, the pass rate is unacceptable for what was given up.

How to fix it though? I don't think Delta should change what they are doing, I think the guys here need to do a better job preparing.

I would consider re-taking aerodynamics courses to help be prepared for the questions.
