Malaysia Airlines 777 missing

OK, I know I'm going out on a limb here and breaking Buck Turgesen's rule not to judge before all the facts are in... however... other than breaking up or exploding into lots of little pieces in the air, there is exactly no way a 777 aircraft could disappear and go lost even if those flying it wanted to get it lost. If it crashed intact into the water a lá AF, there would be lots of relatively concentrated flotsom. If it flew, undetected, off course to "somewhere else"... well, yeah, no. It couldn't do that, not with the surveillance in place today in the China Sea region. If it could, then all the gazzillions being spent on said surveillance ain't being spent on surveillance, or at the very least, not being spent wisely.

Supposedly the range with fuel on board

If they discovered they don't have a good "tape" to review, they might be left with asking a controller what they remember about the aircraft's last known position.

What are the possibilities? 1) The controller has no idea and admits it. 2) The controller has no idea but is compelled to provide an inaccurate answer. 3) The controller remembers accurately. 4) The controller remembers inaccurately.

If the aircraft flew without transponder comms for a considerable distance, the search area grows exponentially with the distance flown.

As far as identifying wreckage from the air, it's not easy. Even with excellent visibility, a little chop in the water can make it difficult to see scattered debris.

At this point, I see nothing that surprises me.

I cant imagine in this day and age their radar tapes are not digital

Wow, to make matters worse, now this....

According to China.org.cn, 19 families have signed a joint statement saying that their family members' cell phones connected, but the calls hung up. The relatives have asked Malaysia Airlines to reveal any information they might be hiding, seeking an explanation for the eerie phone connections. The relatives have complained that the Malaysina Airlines is not responding as actively as it should.

......"This morning, around 11:40 [am], I called my older brother's number twice, and I got the ringing tone," said Bian Liangwei, sister of one of the passengers. At 2pm, Bian called again and heard it ringing once more.

"If I could get through, the police could locate the position, and there's a chance he could still be alive." She has passed on the number to Malaysia Airlines and the Chinese police.

I can turn my phone off, call it, and it will ring....Then roll right to voice maill. I woudlnt put much wieght on this.

What do we know....? a triple 7 disappeared.

What else do we know.....? < to be filled in when there is an answer >
That's the point and why speculation is meaningless. None of us really knows a damn thing at this point. We can make all sorts of suppositions, what ifs and guesses, most of which will turn out to be wrong. As frustrating as the wait is for everyone, lack of evidence, lack of verifiable debris, etc., I imagine it's far more painful for the families and loved ones of the pax and flight crew. It's a horrible nightmarish and desperate situation for them.
