Eagle Manager: Will Pilots please do maintenance?

Considering the web address is now posted, I say we all take the survey (Eagle pilot or not) and either bash them or say we are all A&P qualified and give them false hope :D

To the Eagle pilot group: Thanks for standing up for the profession!

So for sheets and giggles, lets say AE has 2000 pilots, is it going to be a problem when there are well over 2,000 surveys returned....

Just sayin..... ;-)

We had a couple guys on our certificate that were also listed on the mx side as well. It's not uncommon in the 135 world.

It's not that uncommon, and it's perfectly legit- if you do it right. If I had an A&P and was current, I'd be happy to provide added services, however said added services sure as hell aren't free.

Yeah, I'm in that boat. However it seems to me that 135 on little planes vs. 121 with jet airliners is a different ball game and there are a whoooole lot of ways a guy could get hisself in trouble doing that.

As someone who has a A&P and is working towards an ATP, there is no way in hell I would even consider volunteering for that goat rope of an idea. It will set a very bad precedence for the rest of the industry. You can spend the money to call out contract maintenance to MEL a stupid static wick! This would end up going beyond just static wicks and other simple items. @Firebird2XC , do you know if this was passed on to the TWU guys? My brother is an Eagle mechanic in SGF and was shocked when I told him about this.

Oops. Forgot I had taken the survey ;)
Me too! :D

This is actually very common in the airtanker world in aerial firefighting, or at least was at one time. Often, one member of the flightcrew was an A&P, and many of the larger planes carried a small parts stores with them in back while on the road.

I hope people are filling out the survey and using the comments box to tell management to take this idea and stick it where the sun don't shine

Some people are allegedly filing in completely erroneous data just so the survey is either useless or totally blows up in management's face.

Different mission, different life.

Of course. Just pointing out that in the general world of aviation, this isn't unheard of. However in the 121 world, this seemingly would be unheard of.
This is a major change to their OpsSpec. It would require changes to their maintenance program as well as their flight ops SOPs. All these would require a sign off by Eagle management, AAG management and the FAA.

That's all? That easy? Sounds good, make it happen. :D :D

An FO payrate. An FO/A&P payrate; a Capt payrate, and a Capt/A&P payrate.

Of course, if any pilots have ramper experience, let them know too. Then they can do ramp duties at outstations too. Payrates for those also. Now, if ramp experience, AND an A&P....and say ticket agent experience, you could definitely make BANK!!!!

I was an Army Blackhawk crewchief. I've totally done it. Flew with maintenance pilots, took a toolbox with me everywhere, etc.

I'm with you. So long as the point isn't lost to others that this is totally not normal in the airline world.

Also done that. And I can drive a tug without smashing it into the front of an airplane. BUT OH HELL NO. We have people that do that, and they have families to feed.

As far as I know, this was just blasted to pilots. I think maybe they're trying to get some sort of controversy going between pilots and mechanics. Or they really think this is a good idea. I'm not sure which is worse.

A former Eagle guy who went AmWest back in the day warned us to expect a psych warfare campaign from management. It wouldn't surprise me if they're saying stuff like this just to mess with us.

Regarding the "signing off the missing static wick so we can fly to an mx base to get it fixed" example, forgive me for my ignorance of part 121 maintenance practices but... couldn't they just get a ferry permit from the FAA? :ooh:

It's a MELable item. It can fly revenue as long as its MEL'd and signed off by an A&P in the a/c logbook. No need for a ferry.
