FAR 117 Deadheading at end of day

braunpilot

What day is it?
I'm curious what others think. Scheduling schedules you for a double deadhead that goes through the end of the duty day per 117. While I know you can deadhead at the end of the day do people think a double deadhead is legal at the end of the day?

Splitting hairs I know but I don't want to be violated.

Talk with your unions contract compliance folks, not jetcareers.

Yes, you can Tail End DHD 2 3 4 legs and more if the DHD transportation causes you to exceed the limits in Table B you are required to have a compensatory rest no less than 10 hours or the time in DHD transportation (whichever is greater) before you start your next FDP.
Check how your company measures time in DHD transportation and what conditions must be met to exceed the table B limit while in DHD transportation. (Remember DHD before Operational Flight without an intervening rest period is part of a FDP.)

117.25(g)
If a flightcrew member engaged in deadhead transportation exceeds the applicable flight duty period in Table B of this part, the flightcrew member must be given a rest period equal to the length of the deadhead transportation but not less than the required rest in paragraph (e) of this section before beginning a flight duty period.

Perhaps he has and the contract compliance reps are not fully up to speed on 117 either.

Remember, unless they were more restrictive to begin with, most contracts were negotiated well before the final language of 117 was published.

Personally, I'm glad we are finally getting some good practical FAR 117 discussions on JC.

To the OP. From what I understand, a double deadhead at the end of your day is legal, as long as you don't exceed your total duty day (not your FDP as tail end deadheads don't count toward the FDP).
