United Pulling out of CLE

Here it is

I honestly think CommutAir will be ok. Its going to create some logistical challenges with our Maint. hangar and operations center located in CLE. That being said there are a lot of routes out of ORD that could be well served with a prop vs the current service with 50 seaters. There is also room for growth at IAD. A friend of mine at Chautauqua said they haven't filled CLE vacancies in months, this may be why though I can't verify that. I do know that Chautauqua's 50 seat rj contract with United expires this year, and United has been talking about parking 50 seaters for quite some time. Fingers crossed, but I honestly think you will see Commutair in ORD this summer.

Looks like they are keeping all of the mainline flying. Wow.
Surprised me too. That makes me think they plan on keeping CLE as a focus city to retain the frequent flyers on the routes that can actually make money without connections. I hope this "right sizing" works out, didn't seem to do so well for Delta in MEM.

A bunch of guys at UAL were telling me after our SLI cluster that I should apply there and move back to CAK so I could continue to be based at home. Glad I didn't listen to that advice.

I had to get nosy and look up those routes they are keeping and most are done on UA metal. I think the population density around CLE is more than MEM. Id say more business travelers around CLE as well.

Mainline isn't losing much out of CLE, and it will continue to be a base for them as far as what the current information shows.

The update from our "leadership" is basically "uhh...yeah...we just learned about it when you all did.. We'll get back with you."
Same with us... That being said, CommutAir just completed a renovation to our HQ in CLE that cost a few hundred thousand. I can't imagine that being the case if they knew about this, at least not if they thought it was going to affect us.
