Looking for a place (crash pad?) to stay in DFW

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this so mods feel free to move this if necessary...

I work up in the CVG/DAY area and I can't quiet take it any more. I can't stand the area, the weather, the roads, the people, heck even the food stinks. Every week I jump seat somewhere, anywhere, away from there.

I've found a crash pad close to where I work and now I'm looking to find a place in the DFW/DAL area (or AUS/SAT). I'd only be in town for 3-4 days a week max and there would certainly be weeks I did not come up at all (I'd probably average 12-16 days a month).

I'd be pretty flexible on terms and if anyone has any interest in renting a room out to me please PM me.

Based on an earlier thread about commuting dispatchers, I would advise renting a room from someone who works in aviation rather than a traditional crewmember crash pad scenario. Also I think you'd need a car in both places to make it work. Good luck!

I agree with both of those notions. I'd much rather live with someone inside the industry!

I have my 15 year old Toyota up in CVG and I've been saving up for a new car for a few years now (just haven't been able to really justify buying it yet) that I'd buy in Texas.

I live in the DFW area now (Carrollton). I'm not a huge fan of it. There's a ton of *stuff* here, but there really is no culture. It's hard to explain, but unless you're VERY well paid, it's not a place I would choose to live (although I kinda did). Austin on the otherhand has a TON of culture, and you dont have to be loaded to enjoy it. I've never been to SAT, but I know many people who love it there. Just my $.02

I have to agree that, in terms of places with stuff to do, I'd prefer AUS or SAT over DFW. In terms of non-revving/jumpseat opportunities though, the DFW/DAL area definitely wins. So for an airline commuter that could be a deciding factor.

My JSing experience out of DFW was a nightmare I seem to get bumped bc of all the eagle pilots going to chicago. I don't know if that is a hot route (DFW-ORD) but it took me all day to get out of there. Granted if you work for AA then youll be fine. Just my opinion on that. Wish I had the option to commute but I start at 3am so fat chance for me thinkong to do that.

DFW-ORD is one of the most heavily commuted routes. AA, Eagle, UAL, and all their regionals have domiciles in ORD and AA, Eagle have a DFW domicile.

DFW-CVG is a tricky route to commute on. Delta has two morning flights from DFW-CVG but no afternoon eastbound flights. Eagle does DFW-CVG but westbound especially can get weight restricted when the weather in DFW isn't great. It is one of the longer ERJ145 flights that Eagle has. Ramp weight is often an issue on the route in the winter months westbound and also when getting weather re-routes in the summer thunderstorm season.

There's options, DFW-STL-ORD, DFW-XNA-ORD, etc.

Just something else to think about - if you opt for a car in each location - which state are you going to register it in? Some states require that they physically see the car if it is bought out of state. Are you going to buy one in TX, drive it up to OH and then drive it back? What will happen to your insurance if they find out you have a car out of state and failed to tell them?

I have family in Austin and I'd move their in a heart beat. The only real appeal to DFW is between AA and DAL there is something like 7 direct flight to DFW-CVG a day.

I've been asking for trouble for a while now... my car has VA plates, I have a FL drivers license, its register (in someone else' name) in VA, and my permanent address is in OH. Oh the joys of living in 5 states over the last 3 years.

Also don't forget that the Wright exemption is expiring soon so there will be lots of nonstop WN options out of DAL that are not currently available...
This is true and well be great for traveling. That being said, it wont do me much good getting to and from work in CVG. Although DAY would be an option.
