Regionals? Which for my situation

I know you claim to have had an "interesting" 135 background but I still cannot figure out why you want to leave C5 so bad, something doesn't add up... Something must have changed or happened after you started there... Like I have said already numerous times you have all the info you need here but you seem to keep ignoring it, so why ask?

This.

It's a regional job. They largely all suck and by lollygagging around looking for a non-existent "Valhalla" is just extending your time at that level. You already know this.
Absolutely.
The only time you change lanes at the regional level is when you don't think you'll have a job. Five and ten year projections are ridiculous because the regional business is going to look a lot different in 12 months. And then again in 24 months. It's murderball out there and you've got a job.
I wouldn't quite put CommutAir at that point. At some point they'll do something about it, but it's impossible to know when. Supposedly some big announcement this month about a United "Career Path Program" that they'll talk about to any college student that'll listen but not to any of the line pilots.
Clearly we're running from something that we're not being completely frank about.
It would be safe to say that I've not shared all the factors in my decision making process.
Well, to my knowledge I'm not on any ones bad boy list, no sick calls, no missed trips, polite to scheduling, etc. The CP does know me by name but there's only 220-ish pilots around here. Haven't had any Capts have to take the plane from me, hadn't broken anything, no carpet dances, etc.

Fundamentally the thing that has changed is that I have more doors open to me that I did this past summer.

What about your Co-Workers?

It's your business of course, but in the venerable words of Smokey from the movie "Friday" as it's apparent you're leaving the meat out of the story:

"Either y'all got Kool-aid, no sugar. Peanut butter, no jelly. Ham, no burger. Daaamn."

We do our job and have a good time. I've yet to run into someone I'd put on a "Do Not Fly" list. I haven't really asked if anyone thinks the same about me. I'm a little quieter by nature than some of the guys that I work with. Maybe @cmhumphr has some insight on that.

Fundamentally it's about where I want to spend the next 5 years, both in and out of work. And if for some reason it's longer than that I'd like to be making a little more than what C5 is putting out.

Having the CP know you by name might not always be a good thing, especially when new. Any particular reason that might be?

In my last training program with the AF, I was 4 months into a 5 month program when my unit called to check up on me, and the unit DO didnt know who I was and didnt recognize my name in the training squadron. That is a good thing.

As long as you have no problems with CRM, and play the good FO to the Capt...not overbearing, overriding, or overly questioning of the Captain's decisions as a result of coming from single pilot ops yourself, then there shouldnt be any issues.

Probably because he did my interview, took us all to lunch a time or two in Indoc, and I kinda stand out.

Him not knowing my name was never realistically in the cards.

I did my recurrent with the person who interviewed me and they didn't remember me one iota. I remembered them because it was a memorable experience. What was it to them? Just another day on the job seeing a bunch of hopefuls.

I live within 15 minutes of my airport parking lot, and the money I save goes into nicer digs in a better neighborhood, which pays off because I know I'm that much likely to be targeting for robbery while I'm away.

How is it possible to live within 15 minutes of the airport AND in a good neighborhood?!? Though perhaps my viewpoint is skewed due to having only Detroit and Atlanta as benchmarks...:)

It's totally possible. 15 minutes by highway in the right 'burb and you're golden.

To the OP, a commute to ATL is very easy out of MIA. FLL is a little more difficult in my experience. I think Delta has an FA base in South Florida and I usually see commuting FAs in FLL. Either way, there are a ton of options to get you to work and back. CLT is also a very easy commute and I heard SkyWest opened a base there (not sure if they actually did maybe an actual SkyWester can chime in).

As someone who commutes from MIA/FLL now, my advice is to go to Eagle. Dont commute if QOL is what you're looking for.

Hi guys. Long time lurker.

Long story short, I am looking for a next step in the career. I'm thinking 121 regional.

I know nothing about specific regionals. I see all kinds of threads saying "this regionals SUCKS" or "xjt contract is terrible" or "air whiskey has no future" or all sorts of stuff like that.

Here's the deal: I have ATP mins and written. I am going to be commuting out of PBI/FLL/MIA. I have read how much commuting can suck, but that is one thing I absolutely need to do. If eagle seems like a good position to be in because of no commuting, so be it, like I said I don't know if they are good or bad.

Commuting out of FLL/PBI/MIA, no preference of airframe (jet vs turboprop).

My only goal, like most others here, is to have some QOL, a set schedule, and in the future, work for a major (be it pax or cargo, makes no diff here)

Thank you for your attention. I'm sorry if I am about to start a flamewar! I just want to know the facts and the options available.

Apply to Compass, PSA, and Mesa. Those are all small regionals with either a ton of attrition, a ton of growth, or both. Nothing in life is guaranteed, but the odds are in your favor for brisk movement and career advancement.

Avoid any of the mega regionals. 30 airplanes growth at PSA allows all current FOs to upgrade. 30 airplanes growth at XJT still leaves the majority of current FOs empty handed.
