Logging PIC with the new R-ATP rule

With the new rule requiring everyone to have a type rating for the aircraft they are flying, does that mean that they are appropriately rated and as the sole manipulator of the flight controls, a first officer in a 121 operation can log PIC time in the aircraft?

Unfortunately this subject has been beaten worse then a baby seal, so you are not going to get many takers.

Super short, super simple answer............No

For the long answer use the search function.

The simple answer is that by the Part 61 definition of properly typed sole manipulator... yes.

That said, if you list this time as "PIC" when you are applying to other places, you WILL be laughed out of the room and sent home.

Log it all you want by Part 61 standards, heck- it might even be "usable" in the Part 91/ 135 world, but show up to a 121 interview when you've got "XYZ MTPIC," while you've never been a Captain, and they'll show you the door faster than you can blink.

It is worthless for any reason that you might be counting it for in the first place. You aren't acting as PIC so it doesn't matter. You will be laughed right out the door, almost anywhere except maybe a flight school flying 150s...

What about an instructor in row 12 and a safety pilot in row 11 seat B?????
Was that you sitting next to me? I hate to say it, but you should really take a shower and consider deodorant. And.....keep your shoes on during the flight. Clipping your toenails at FL350 is NEVER acceptable.

Sorry it was not me I was taking a commercial multi check ride in row 15........

Can't speak to 91, but in 135 the laughter would come in peals, possibly complete with some fat old CP falling out of his chair and having a heart attack.

The answer is No. Log PIC when you're the guy signing the paperwork. Or be laughed at and shown the door. Your call. But remember that poor old CP and his kids when you make your choice.

I never understood why people ask this, as if they are seriously considering doing it. There are designated roles in a 121 airplane, PIC and SIC, you are either one or the other. End of story.
