Dreamlifter lands at wrong airport and can't take off

I fly 16 hour duty days on the wrong side of the clock in an metro with no automation. I usually fly 6-8 hours a night with some of the legs being 6 hours long with no AP. So yea, fatigue, I know a little about it.

Since you strive for perfection in all you do, I'll help you out, you fly "a Metro."

Maybe you're just tired after your sixteen hour day.

Case is closed jhugz is here to solve the issue! He's read about automation, so he knows how a 747/ everything is set up.

Carry on, we're all listening.
Our nuts will never be as large as his. Last I heard, he needs a forklift just to get them in his /A Metro at 3 AM after 14 hours of duty time.

DME and Mode C are for wusses.

If my Grandpa didn't need them to cross an ocean in his Boeing 314, then neither do I!

:sarcasm:

McConnell is lit up by like a Christmas tree; no way!

Jabara runway length is HALF that of McConnell (12,000 vs 6,000') 50' less in width. I MIGHT understand landing Beech instead of McConnell because of runway length but Jabara?

You've actually described circumstances that would make it easier to land on the wrong runway or at the wrong airport, I think.

Proportionally, 12000x150 vs. 6000x100 . . . probably looks about the same until the last ten seconds.

The most important part of my post was the "Lit up like a Christmas tree" part. I might have left out other information about the airport that would make this a stupid move. McConnel has two parallell 12,000' runways, the entire airfield is literally lit up like crazy, and there is a FLEET of KC-135's parked on the east ramp!!!

BOTH BEC and AAO are SINGLE runways and very poorly lit at night.

Those are all things to be considered, yes.

I know I'm usually gazing at the east ramp during final approach and not the runway, at some airport I've never been to before in my life, at night, and yawning on final after a long day. ;)

While that's possible, the two different airport beacons should've been a giveaway from a distance, much less in close. Its not like they mistook a civil field, for a civil field. There's a reason the beacons are different.
