Transstates Training and ATP ride

I have a training date with Transstates starting early November, and I've been studying everything they gave me including one of those ATP oral prep books. I've been told by one or two people I should knock out the ATP in a Seminole before I get there. I've had a half dozen 135 pic rides over the past 3 years and feel like I can handle the load.

Only advantage I see to having it prior is that I'm not studying a few extra items that could end up on a type ride anyways. I mean, you fail that type & ATP ride...you're still going home.

Anyone through recently with words of advice? Much appreciated...Thanks!

I wouldnt worry so much about getting the ATP in a seminole before you show for class, considering that either way, you are still taking a type ride. The ATP on top of that is nothing more than a few questions added to the oral. Now, having the ATP prior to an interview with a major would be a plus, but you will get that at TSA. Incidentally, when is your class date? I go in Nov. 4. See ya there maybe?

Oh cool, yeah I have a Nov 4 class date as well. I'm waiting to hear about a potential early start, but I should be there soon anyways.

Roger, good stuff guys! Thank you. I'm just going to keep studying what I have and just get ready for training.

Study up what they give you and you should be fine. I wouldn't spend the extra money before hand, you'll need it the first year.

I agree with that, saving as much as possible; looks like training is moved up to next monday in any case. Studying these docs at the moment is enough!

Was curious how much time between your letter of invite, interview than class date.

Thank you.

Make sure you find the erj systems and study those :-) it is good to know the limitations and memory items but on the oral they will ask you like three or four items.

The only advantage to having an ATP prior to going to a 121 initial training is that during the type ride the check airman can "pause" the checkride up to 2 times and do re-training while the checkride is going and recheck the maneuver you failed without busting the checkride while if it is also an ATP ride the first time you screw something up the whole ride is unsat. While that is nice, I guess, I don't think it is worth 3 grand. They're going to train you to pass the checkride, they spend close to 40 grand on your training -- they want you to pass.

Save your money - your type ride is more or less going to be the same whether you come with an ATP or not.

I'm planning on sending in a resume to TSA pretty soon. Any suggestions? ATP written is done.
Stop waiting and send it in! :) Seriously, I echo what @SFCC/UND said, you don't want to end up as the plug on the bottom of the list.

Have you thought about sending anything in to ExpressJet?

I sent out a feeler email to the HR address they had on the website, and she said to wait til I have about 25-30 hrs of multi. I think it's because you can only count 25 hrs of time in a FFS toward the R-ATP mins. Also, aside from the regs, how solid are the 'minimums' airlines require. The only reason I didn't send them in a LONG time ago, was because I didn't meet their minimums. But I've heard guys got hired on with WAAAAY less time than what they listed.

I know to show up for class, unless you qualify for the R-ATP, they want 1465TT and 25ME. They will interview prior to that and into a "pool"... in which when you have the time, you call and get a class date. Two of my friends interview at around, 1300, found out they didn't qualify under the R-ATP rules, so they were given the conditional offer and then told to call back at around 1460.

I started class at 1400, 3 days after the RATP rules went into effect. I just hit 1500 yesterday (I 'finished training' on Sept. 25th) and have a ridiculous amount of sim time because of it. What is your TT at now?

Over the 1465 TT. Should have 1500 within a week or two. I've got a few trips planned in the 'ol Duchess, and should have the 25 ME in approx a week.
