Does an AGI or IGI exempt a CFI from having to log ground instruction?

What do YOU think? I guess the question is, are you exercising the privileges of your CFI or you AGI/IGI when you give instruction?

If it does exempt you, then I'm going the pony up the bucks and take the test.

§ 61.189 Flight instructor records.
(a) A flight instructor must sign the logbook of each person to whom that instructor has given flight training or ground training.

§ 61.215 Ground instructor privileges.
(d) A person who holds a ground instructor certificate is authorized, within the limitations of the ratings on the ground instructor certificate, to endorse the logbook or other training record of a person to whom the holder has provided the training or recommendation specified in paragraphs (a) through (c) of this section.

One reg is about record keeping the other is about privileges. I don't have the regs in front of me but I would say "no" to your question.

Even if I am wrong it would not be a smart move. Documenting everything can save you some heartache if and accident or something occurs. The FAA will looks at the records and start asking questions when they find stuff missing.

The logging of ground instruction is something required for the trainee. I think it appears in the requirements for every certificate and rating except the ATP (which doesn't require any instruction).

61.189(a) was probably a measure to protect pilots as the result of some jerk who refused to endorse training for some reason for another. In any event, it's merely the flipside to regs like 61.105(a) which says "A person who is applying for a private pilot certificate must receive and log ground training from an authorized instructor..." (but, of course, being current or hopeful a CFI and AGI/IGI you already know that).

So, let's assume you are a ground instructor and you think you don't have to endorse training in the student's logbook or other training record. What good are you to the student?

If you didn't log it then you obviously used your CGI, if you did log it then you could have used either CGI or CFI.

I think this may have a bit to do with a CGI teaching a classroom filled with students. Teach a lesson then sign everyones logbook

I'm all about endorsements and logging flight and sim training time, don't get me wrong. And I log some ground time for my students working on pvt/inst/comm/cfi, but when I'm teaching a class with 15 young students years away from private 3x a month every month (which, believe it or not, is my situation) I want to avoid that headache if I can.
