Lightspeed Zulu 2 vs 1

My Zulu 1's are getting long in the tooth, and need all the padding replaced, along with a new cord. I've had them for about 6 years now, so I sure got my money worth. I'm trying to decide if I should spend the money on them fix everything, or take advantage of the LS trade up program and get a new set of Zulu 2's. Are the 2's enough of an improvement to justify the $400 I'd spend on trading up, vs the $150 or so I'd spend on an out of warranty headset to replace the soft goods and cord?

From my experience Lightspeed should replace the cord for free. (even out of warranty) I asked a rep the same question and they said "you wont notice much of a difference" so I have kept my Zulu v1s for the time being.

I have the 2's but I flew with a guy who had the 1. We switched a couple times and neither of us noticed a difference.

I've been thinking of doing the same. I just duct taped the cord and bought sportys padding package. A much better choice in my opinion.

I had both, there is a small difference but not enough to justify the cost. Light speed has fantastic customer service, they will fix most everything for free except the ear pads ($20.)

Has anyone here used Oregon Aero's headset upgrades? They make such items as ear seals and headband cushions. They cost more than OEW stuff, but not by a large amount.

I'd keep them until they die, but that's just me. My Bose are going on 6 years and are as good as new. Bose replaced the pads for $10 and refurbished them for free.

yes, on my David clamps and also on Zulu 1s. I never noticed much of a difference with the different ear seals but the sheepskin headpad is fantastic.

We just sent in a pair of company Zulu 1's which we're shorting out due to the fact that the cord was worn so bad the wires were exposed near the base of the headset. Light speed replaced (refurbished) the headset at no cost. New ear pads were put on as well, not for free, but very it was inexpensive considering they fixed the headset which is at least 3-4 years old for free, no questions asked. Just call the service people and set it all up. It was hassle free, other than having to ship it to them. They also ship the headset back at no cost; shipping it to them is out of pocket.

But how do they stand up to having a heavy window closed on them?
