Need help planning fun flight in CA

I have a student that is requesting I plan something good for our 1 year anniversary of his discovery flight (don't laugh!). The problem is, we've done a LOT of flying, such as:

-Several SF bay tours
-Flown to San Diego twice
-Flown over LA a few times
-Flown to Tahoe
-Flown to Shelter Cove

I can't come up with any ideas right now, but he gave me a budget of $500. Any creative minds out here that are familiar with California flying?
Grass strips in the Sierras and North Valley/North Bay area. Lunch at STS. They've got really good lettuce wraps.

Or a night flight to WLW. 24 hour diner on the field with great pie. Yum.

Nancy's is awesome, but a word of warning to everyone - they are no longer open 24 hrs (I learned that the hard way). I think they're open till 8pm on weekdays, and 11pm on Friday/Saturday. I guess the truck stop traffic has really slowed down for them and it's no longer worth it being open around the clock. Bummer! It was the best place to stop for night cross country.

@TwoTwoLeft good ideas there... Thank you.

We worked out the details today and we are going to Catalina. Gonna blow the budget at least two fold but that's ok. Fun is priceless, right? Lolz

Nice! Catalina is awesome. You staying the night and heading down to Avalon? If you have the time, the kayaking tours are about the best bang for your buck. Renting a golf cart isn't bad idea either. At most of the rentals, if you rent after 12:00 and buy two hours you get the 3rd free. It's a good way to see a lot if you don't have much time.

That place looks like a fun spot for a M and G.

That really would be a good time!

Kern Valley is a great spot too. A little more accessible for those who have to rent. There's no where within walking distance to really shoot, but you've got a nice river near by to fish in! For the first two weeks of September, If anyone's into dove hunting, I bet we could gain access to the fields surrounding the airport.

Not sure if we'll stay on the island for fly over to Orange County and stay there. But I will keep this updated and post some pictures when we get back.
