Dust devil meet Cessna

Hey guys, thought I'd share this picture of a dust devil I encountered a few years back. This dust devil was well over 1,000' tall. It actually blends with the horizon!

Wow, crazy. Never thought of them as violent.

I flew through one once on final to New Jerusalem, pegged the VSI for a second and I gained like 300 feet in the blink of an eye with a gnarly sound whipping over the plane. Then all was calm and I landed normally. Pretty neat. Also drove through a very wide one a few weeks ago near PHX, wasn't that bad. Guess it all depends.

The airship was a little different. They would end up pushing the airship upward very quickly, so quickly that you really had to make sure to not end up over your operating ceiling, depending on environmental conditions. And you'd generally exit on a much different heading.
Hahahaha, go figure right?

Thank you! This picture was taken in SW Kansas near the Colorado boarder where I had a summer internship as a cloud seeding pilot. I've got tons of impressive, very close and personal photographs!
You should post some in the On The Road forum. Welcome to the forum, btw.

I used to aim at them from time to time for some excitement in the airship. Made for quite the ride.
In my young and stupid days (those two aren't always connected), I would do the same in a helicopter. It was a great ride until the one time I found myself sideways.....
I'm pretty sure I'm still passing pieces of one of the Army's seats.......
