B-1 down in Montana

Quick question. Whats up at Nellis? I used to see numerous fighters and other aircraft blasting off on my drive to work. I havent seen anything in quite a while. Maybe a few helos here and there but thats it. Is that sequester related?

Yes, Red Flags were cancelled this year. The next one is supposedly in January.

Ok, this B1 cost umpteen millions of dollars and these guys gotta fly with a damn wire that looks like it was hard wired to the panel, by Aerosmith's band roadies?

Mike check, mike check 1, mike check 1, 2.

From what I've heard about the Bone's electrical systems, hard wiring schtuff yourself might be the only way to ensure that it won't catch fire.

Just bought a big ole' jar of the dry roasted variety from Costco that's just begging for a beer on the balcony to accompany it.

Roger that! Had a massive jar of Cashews, pistachio and dry roasted sitting on the patio in Perdido key! Almost every evening was a front row seat to mother natures firework display off shore, that jar, and glass bottles!

I've worked on this B-1 years ago when I was a crew chief... whatever the reason, glad the crew made it out.

NSA surveillance has released this photo of the likely location of the missing nuclear weapons.

Doctor Evil's; That's his underground lair.
You can't really see it (I took the pic through the window on downwind), but note the yellow area one center line mark from the 29 numbers (on the runway abeam the area between the hangar doors). It says "PRIVATE". 5000ft private concrete strip. Not bad, huh?

Is that is south western Wisconsin? I believe the founder of Lands End had a private airport and underground hangar up around Viroqua somewhere, but I dont recall where as I've been out of the area for a while.

Where was this? That is an amazing piece of property.

Edit: yep I was right, that's Leeward

His son tried to start an air cargo company at KMSN back in the late 90's, they had a single Caravan, I think it was called PondAir or something like that. Dont think it ever succeeded, I never remember it flying much.

Wow. Just looked at it on Bing maps. That's... incredible. I cannot imagine how much it cost to lay that down. It even has it's own PAPI, for Pete's sake! The west end of the runway has some... interesting elevation changes, too.

That's one helluva spread right there. Here's the map. Gotta zoom in.

There are some pretty incredible pieces of property like that out in Montana... I remember one guy had pretty much an entire mountainside to himself and he had a bunch of tanks he would drive all over the place. If I'm ever rich beyond belief I think I'll do something similar.

There's a guy right next to my wife's family's farm property in rural Missouri that has a full-blown railroad on his property. It pretty crazy. Yet another map. Zoom in and do Bird's Eye, and you can see the loops it makes around the place. Our farm is just on the other side of the river. Hoping to put in a grass strip some day.

It also appears that it must have a non-precision private GPS approach procedure, considering that sectional chart shows Class E dropping to 700' AGL around the airport.

I dont see a procedure listed on the FAA's site though. Does anybody know if you pay to establish a procedure into a private airport if that data can remain private?
