Logging fighter time for ATP requirements

Is anybody racking up more hours than P-3 guys? I guess they really don't count. ;)

My impression from talking to friends in that community is that they leave their JO tours with similar TT to those of us in VFA......they prob hit the 1000 hr patch quicker since less of their TT is devoted to orange and whites, but I digress. Conversely I'd bet that there probably isn't anyone else logging less total PIC/AC time than P-3 guys though :)

Yeah, but they pick up the pace pretty quickly after their first tour. Around the boat, nobody racked up time faster than S-3 pilots (after the retirement of the Whale).

I bet the VX-30 guys still flying (or flying again) S-3's are making decent hrs as well :) No tanker duty, but I can only imagine that range clearing must only lead to some serious jerk-X's with all that gas......that and they must need to go grab the $10,000 burger for currency fairly often

And yeah, as a former NATOPS O with access to logbooks, I can attest that our two former S-3 pilots turned DH's have as much TT as the front office does.......and Skipper/XO have never left the cockpit, save a year each post DH.

Don't forget the VQ guys... Once they hit IP, all of the hours they have just sitting on the jet start counting as well. I don't have hard numbers for them, but we're doing over 100 hours of flight time during our 23 day deployments, each pilot capable of logging around 66 hours.

Plus with 155k of gas, and AR capable, who can really beat us?

Yep, if I had to venture a guess as to who logs the most, TACAMO would be a pretty safe bet I'd say. I'd also say that would probably be the community to go to if one wanted to immediately fly for the airlines after getting off active duty.

Absolutely. We used to have a 737 for initial training as well. The "older" pilots loved being able to pick up the type rating. One of our more recent retired Commodores is now working at Southwest.

707 type, not quite as useful. But the heavy experience alone is pretty nice.

And glass cockpit right? It's not your grandfather's 707.
