Question on pilot bags...

Rollaboard (clothes): Purdy Neat Stuff 22" Stealth.

Flight kit: Hunt Manufacturing Coyote Works Classic. Add the skid plates, they're worth it.

Crew cooler: AeroCoast.

You carry your charts in the flight kit, your clothes in the rollaboard, and your food in the crew cooler. The rollaboard and the flight kit I listed are both bulletproof, and while I manage to destroy about one cooler per year, I haven't used the AeroCoast yet (but I will be soon) and I hope it lasts more than a year.
I have that cooler/laptop bag... I love it and it's held up great for 2 years.

I just bought one of these for my new bag:

I know this probably wouldn't work for you airline types, but I needed something smaller to fit in the new ride, and from what I have seen it can hold a crap ton of stuff despite its smaller size. It wasn't cheap, but it has a unconditional lifetime warranty.

Thee strongbags and stealth must be good because there aren't any on eBay. I'm using an eBags mother-lode rolling duffel. Love it, but I doubt it would survive airline commuter lifestyle.

The last time I commuted was in 2002 from Cincinnati to Pittsburgh. So I was fortunate to either ride on a CRJ or a Dornier. I could just leave my rollaboard at the door.

What do you guys do with your rollaboard if you commute on a 737 or an E170 with full planes and no room in overhead bins?

Resign on the spot is what I'd like to do. /sarcasm/

It's only -almost- happened to me once from DTW to JFK on a deadhead in a full 'bus. I would've had to get my stuff from baggage claim... Yikes.

The 170 I sometimes ride to work gate checks and you get them back at the jetway.

Does the luggage works bag (22") fit in the overheads wheels first? Seems like that would be a deal killer for the strongbag.

I'm going on 6 years with my Strongbag. In the first year I had some of the rivets break, but they were great about providing a loaner bag while they repaired mine at no cost. It came back more reinforced than the original, and I think the new ones have this reinforcement built in. The ONLY thing that I HATE about my Strongbag, is that it is about 1" too long to fit wheels in or handle in in most overhead bins. I'm the jackass who has to put it in sideways.. and as a commuter often getting on last, it can add some stress to an already stressful commute. This issue alone would make me think twice about getting another Strongbag.

Ironic, since it's designed by a Southwest pilot, no?

Somewhat related. My uniform pants are finally wearing out after 5.5 years of wear and I'm looking for replacements. The crew outfitters ones have obviously lasted a really long time, but I'm looking for something a bit more comfortable that is preferably washable. I was going to give A Cut Above a shot because I like their shirts. For the longest time they said they were going to restock their black pants in June...but they just updated their website to say that now it won't be until February. I've heard that golf pants are a good option, does anyone have some suggestions?

I'm not sure how that's more ironic than if it were designed by a Delta pilot... From what I've heard, the dimensions were based on fitting under the 737 jumpseat... Which certainly would make sense for a product designed by a Southwest pilot.

My bag is holding up, but the only Airbus bin that will take it wheels in is JetBlue. I probably won't buy another Strongbag unless they make one 1/2" shorter.

Are there any bags other than Luggage Works and Strongbags that you guys would recommend that DO fit in all of the mainline overheads?

Meh. I had a TravelPro. It fit...until the handle broke.

I have a LuggageWorks Stealth -Suiter. The suit pocket makes it a tight fit in the CRJ overhead, but most places give you crap for wanting to bring it on a CRJ anyway.

I got a LuggageWorks after the travel pro broke, and I loved it, so I replaced it this year with a new one instead of getting a cheaper option. It fits on the E190 behind the FO seat, and I never have to worry about it being damaged by rampers. It's built like a tank.

Ask amorris311 about that.

I've been commuting mostly on a CR7. I have a 22" LW which I know will fit in the overhead, but I just gate check it every time. It even fits in a Brasilia overhead.
